Why Clio V6

Im in the process of chosing another car, i currently have a 172 Sport (Phase 2) in silver. I love it to bits but i feel the need for a change as ive had my clio for coming up to 2 years. I think the V6 Clios are gorgeous and have fallen in love with them!. Im just finding it hard to come to terms with how much they are, are they really worth the money?, im just having a hard time deciding whether to get one or something else for the money you pay for one.

Can anyone help me with their thoughts on them? worth the money over other cars in the price bracket?

i would love one but i dont think they would be practical enough as a everyday car, if i was going to spend that sort of money i would probably get a 350Z or a STI scoob

Check out this months evo for cars available at £20k.

Then go and buy either an M5 or an NSX.

Much as I like the V6 255 for its mini-supercar looks, I wouldnt consider one til they got nearer the £15k mark.

Deathraps though. And underpowered at that. And for some reason dont have the wow factor of the 2. Weird given I prefer the pre-facelift 172s.

If you want one, stop worrying about the money and go buy one. Youll only regret it if you dont. This is a car you buy because you love it, not because it makes sense.

What he said, if YOU like it, buy it. What us keyboard monkeys say is irrelevant if YOU want to buy it.

Deathtraps? lol, you dont get on with RWD cars then? Come on man, wheres your chest hair! ;)

Ive never driven a RWD but in true keyboard-monkey style Im drawing my observations from the written word.

I understand that the mk1 is particularly horrific in the handling/snap-oversteer-in-to-a-hedge department.

I cant make any sense of why anyone would buy a V6. But thats because its not that kind of car.

Go and drive one and believe me you will want one. I have no idea why, but it feels "special" and doesnt go too badly either. ;)

They just dont do it for me, for that amount of money Id buy an Evo.
Servicing costs of Evo are worrying though. Servicing every 6k...?

If I could afford to buy it I could afford to service it. So a no to both

Yeah, good point. It reminds of a bloke up here that bought a 350Z after getting a wee win on the lottery. Bonnet got damaged and he cant afford to get it fixed.

SOOTY, if this is in fact your real name?:p

As its been said in this thread, if YOU want one, get one. A lot of people just reiterate what magazines, programmes or mates of mates of mates say.

Most people who have V6s have gone through the same, all driven the other cars, Evos, 350s etc and weve all settled on V6s.

I drove all the others and as an all round package none of them could compete with the V.:D

NSX. Did you drive one of those? I agree though that I reckon the others are very over-rated from my armchair position.

And who wants to fork out several grand every 4k miles on a service!

I had not driven one before I bought one because I couldnt find one to test drive..................so theres nothing more exclusive than a Vee.

Also I had bought and paid for mine before I had even seen it.................my dad went down to Southampton to have a look at 3.................10 hours later it was smiles smiles smiles ALL the way...................YOU WONT REGRET IT

When you see the reaction of owners of the cars previously mentioned then that says it all :D

With all the other V6 owners here! I bought the V6 because it stirs something inside you - its not about rationality and facts and figures!! Thats why it tends to produce extreme reactions - the "its the best car ever" from those who connect with it - the "overpriced and not fast enough" from those interested in metrics. Of course there are also those who simply dont like it as a drive etc. ... another valid position. I respect everybodies view on this ... but I absolutely love my V6!

V6 ownership is about "soul" ;)

Whats age got to do with it? Its regarded as one of the finest handling RWD cars of all time. They still make em FFS!

Anyone with a V6 including myself, and yes im a girl! are not disappointed with them. They are fantastic but I do beleive they are overpriced BRAND NEW but you can pick one up thats just about brand new for alot less or go for a year old one at a bargain price. They are out there, just look!

  Clio v6

Dont like big cars.

Like small cars.

Like different cars.

Can afford to be daft.

Try a V6 and if you like it enough then buy it.

FFS he says:cry:

Yes they still make them, but to get one for 25k it would be rather old. And the design has bearly changed since it was released in the early nineties.

Its just not a car I like, you know, like some people dont ike the V6:)

I like the V6, dont get me wrong (only the 255 though) but if I had £20k to spend Id be looking at either an NSX, an M5 or an S1 Exige.

The costs are so cheap on the NSX and theyre so reliable I really think Id struggle to justify buying a Clio.

Quite why evo didnt include the V6 though in this test, and lumped the 182 in for the sake of it is beyond me.

  The Jinx

This months evo mate. Almost made for this thread. Really doesnt make sense that they didnt include the V6 given theyre the only mag Ive ever seen praise it.

  clio v6

its an 02.. you can get an 02 v6 for 13k ....

oh and autocar said you cant get a car that is this much fun less than 30k...

so there......:D

I think im fair in saying that myself and James are two of the few people on this forum to of been fortunate enough to be owners of Mk1 and Mk2 V6s. And speaking for myself, the Mk2 is the kiddy, loved my Mk1 and would never say no to another, but the Mk2 is just that little bit easier on the brain for everyday driving (i.e. on the road as oppossed to track days), but either would make a very nice purchase. If your worried about future residuals go buy a low mileage Mk1 that has done the majority of its depriciating, if your not so bothered then my advice to you would be buy a Mk2, especially if you are a little concerned with the on limit handling.

BTW all the above is IMHO!! Before the flaming starts.

P.S. Watch this space for another Mk2 vee, think Silver maybe the order of the day this time round :D
