Why do clios decode themselves??

  Clio's
I have a 172 that started fine when i got it and has been driven around a few places back and to from manchester and then some local journeys. i left it on my drive for a couple of weeks and now it wont start. i just have the imoobiliser light flashing at me. is there anything that can be done other than taking it to renault and paying £150 to get a new key coded?

There's something you can do with the door lock/unlock that sorts it out. It just means the immobiliser has been activated and needs deactivating... not a Renault £150 job!

ive tried using the key to lock and unlock it whilst in the car and everything but nothing works what is it exactly that you can do?

Da

  Less
The Clio's use random code generators for the key/immobiliser. The longer you leave them unused the further out of synch they get with eachother.

To resynch the keys, I think it's;

Key in ignition switched on, but don't start the car.
Press and hold the dash door lock button until it beeps twice.
Then press the first key to lock/unlock the doors.

Repeat with second key.

Both should now be re-synched.
