Why is 1149cc classed as a 1.2??

  None
As per title really - always see 1.1 clios for sale even tho the badge is a 1.2. Technically I would class 1149cc as a 1.1 or a 1.15 maybe but how do Renault class it as a 1.2??

its the same accross most ranges, th 2l are mostly 1998cc the same as the 1.5 dci's ar 1498, check the cc's on most other ranges and you'll see the same.

Yeh, but a 1.2 should be 1198, not 1149. 1149cc is more like a 1.1/1.15.

it's manufacturers choice, they'll sell more 1.2's than 1.1's, an example of manufacturers choice was the 1.25 fiesta that used to exist, they previously had a 1.3 that had a bad name so changed it to 1.25 when the updated the engine, i think it was to a zetec.

Yeah, but all the examples you've just given show them rounding the right way...Maxx's question I think was why they'd rounded 1,149 up to 1,200 not down 1,100?

I've no idea...always wondered myself though LOL

its because they made loads of 1.2 badges, would have cost loads to scrap em all and make 1.1 badges.

No idea. LOL

think its just coz if u roun up 1.149 u get 1.15 which then u get 1.2, pretty slim, they should of just made em 1199

its cos the frenchys go off the emissions as fred said the 1.2 is aka 1.2litres of fuel per 10km in an ideal situation ie 70mph round a ring test track
