Why is there now power to my amp

I have wired my amp up, but there is no power going to it! The little power l.e.d. is glowing so I guess its to do with the remote or the power cable itself? Im pretty sure Ive connected the power lead to the battery ok, and the remote wire is connected to the blue and white stripy lead on the headunit. The ground wire is bolted to the bolt in the middle of the rear seat split. Am I missing soimething really obvious?

Make sure the earth is a proper earth as that bolt may not be connected to bear metal !! Try removing some paint in the boot and connecting like that !! If its sparks and turns on then thats your prob

Also make sure that the blue/white striped cable from the HU is the amp remote turn on wire as this might be an electric ariel cable or summit !! And make sure the fuse in the cable to the battery is ok !!

What do you mean theres no power going to it if the LED is on? The amp is getting power all the time from your power cable, if there are lights on the amp it means its turned on, so I would assume your remote wire is also ok. If it was a really bad earth, then youll probably be noticing a strange burning smell coming from the amp any time soon, unless the fuse has popped first. TBH Id check the levels on the head unit and the amp first.

Im assuming youve got your RCA leads plugged in...

All the amps Ive ever seen dont light up the powel led until the remote wire is active - i.e. the HU has been switched on.

So check if your amp led goes off when you cut the power to the hu by turning off the unit itself or the ignition.

Other than that, everything sounds ok. You wouldnt get a lit up led at all if there was a problem with the power. So Im guessing youre just not getting any sound?! Check the RCA leads and the speaker wires. Ensure you have the gain and the rca voltage input selector (if the amp has one) set correctly.

Sorry, I mean to put the led is NOT glowing, there is nothig at all. Could it be that the earth is not connected, does it have to be connected properly to complete the circuit?

If the LED is not glowing i would go back over all the wiring and connections and cheakc them all, then check the fuse in the power cable.

So long as the earth lead is bolted to something thats bare metal, and attahced to the bodywork you should be fine. A bad earth normally manifests itself in bad sound quality rather than not working at all. First thing Id do is check the fuses on the power cable and on the amp. Then go through each connection and make sure its good. Its difficult to pick the wrong wire when you looking for the remote from the back of the HU, as its usually got a female bullet type connector on it ready for the remote wire to the amp.

Also remember, its perfectly normal to have these problems when you first install an amp! Weve all been there and 9/10 times it a faulty connection or something similar.

Is that a joke?

I hope so!!! ;-)

Yes the earth needs to be connected.
I meant would the earth wire mean the power wouldnt come on, or wud it just affect the sound!

Take them out, if theyve gone then theyre normally a bit blackened. There should be a strip of metal inside it, check that its not broken.

just link a wire from your +ve to the remote turn on.

That will make the amp stay on all the time - usefull for testing stuff - dont leave it like that!

Then all you need to worry about is that the +ve and -ve wires are ok.

Do you have a volt metre? Use that to check you have power. Put it across the terminals when its set to DC Volts.
You could of course just brush the +ve against the -ve and see if it sparks! lol

Ive got it going now! It wasnt earthed poperly. I had it on the bolt in the rear seat split. It was the last thing I checked aswell! It is now earthed to the back of the rear light. Thanks for your help guys!!!!!

No probs, glad youve sorted it. Although Im suprised the earth you had on the seat bolt was so bad that it wouldnt even power on. Anyways, like I said 9/10 times its a bad connection, at least youll now know what to look out for next time.
