WHY on earth did I ever fit 17 s

Car  Mondeo STTDCI

When I first bought my 1.2 Clio I put on a set of OZ Super Ts. Lovely they looked.

Just taken them off for the original 15"s so I can sell the car. What a bloody difference! The car felt nippier - it took off much better from standstill. The ride was so much softer - nowhere near the harshness of the 17"s.

Bloody waste of time. Shoulda stuck with the originals or gone to 16"s max.

lol yea.

i was thinking the same thing with my 1.4 mate, i thought cant be much difference with just 15" with low profiles, but alloys feel alot heavier. lost slight acceleration. and can feel everybump in the road. its the price u pay ;)

i had my 17s off and std 15s back on for a while today to get the tracking done (although i went to all that effort to be told it could have been done with them on! grrr) i was thinking the same as well, but it just looked so cack on 15s and looks ssssccchhhhhweeeeetttt on its 17s again now and freshly valeted! :)

there are lots of days though where i really wish i was on standard wheels and wasnt 60mm lower! been driving on crap irish country roads for the last 10 days and it was a nightmare.

my two m8s have clio 1.4 16v and 1.2 16v. the guy wit the 1.2 has 17"s and he swopped them wit the 1.4 for a day so the 1.4 had 17s and 1.2 had the standard 15s... conclusion? the 1.4 cud only pull about 1 car lengh on the 1.2 from 0-80!!!

usually its more like 10 car lengths!

i wud never bother gettin alloys, as i cud visibly see the speed die!

The main reason i bought 16s was to compromise between looks and performance. 15s just dont fill the arches enough IMO (on a 16v anyway) And I didnt want any hassle with possibole rubbing on 17s. (plus my exhaust was taking a beating cos my car was too low on 15s )

ive had 14s, 16s and 17s on mine. best handling comes with the 17s i reckon, but they do slow it down a tinsy bit. but they look better....

I fitted 17s to my 5gt turbo and although they looked the biz they totally ruined the handling of the car. Ho hum.

LOL

well mate from what i gathered you cant go wrong with 16"

but what ever your gonno notice a different when u starting swaping alloys, different profile tyres, lowering etc.

16"´s look small even on a Clio, and it´s all about looks!!!!;) Slammed on 17´s is the way to go

its a fashion thing, if all the car mags were to turn round and say 14s are the coolest thing, then most people would go for them. IMO. Today i saw a saxo with 18s, it looked like it would have been better of on a farm.

Ok, i want better looking wheels than standard, and was looking at some lightweight wheels, not too botherd about looks as long as there better than steelies lol.

What should i choose

14s,15s,16,s ?
On low Profile?

Im gunning for performance here!

Cheers

On a Clio mk1 I would say 16´s............14´s will just look so wrong and tiny. Super T´s are wery light and looks so good !!

16s are the go-- they can look bigger if you get the right style(spoke right to the edge of the rim)

Tyres are considerably cheaper and you have more chance of recognising a flat before you shred the tyre

Also much less chance of stuffing the rim if kerb and wheel meet

well as std the dynamiques have

185
55
584.5

a decent set of 17s would have

205
40
595.8

and a set of 16s could be.....

195
45
581.9or

205
45
590.9

1st = width (mm) - 2nd = aspect ratio (%) - 3rd = diameter (mm)

Its all about being slammed on 14s , euro look init! I love my 14s now, 17s suk, but they do handle well and look sweet, but 14s are better for performance and ride.

WHY 14´s????? You have to get sick low to get it too fill the arches.......And wery near the ground!!! = damage over the slightest bump or what ever lying on the road..........:o

I no wot you mean, i have 14s with 70mm drop and it still dont fill the arches but the bumpers are very low to the ground. My m8 has a mk1 golf with 13s and its lowered 120mm. He can only drive in certain roads.
