ive had my timing belt done on my 1.2 8v, but if the aux belt snaps how does that affect the timing, i was sure it dosent until now.

all it runs is the pumps, alternator etc.

Well no, it's never a good thing having a belt snap, but if the aux belt snaps on the f4r they're particularly prone to wrapping round the cam belt. Hence the bent valves and knackered engine.

ye any breakdowns bad

On the 8v it shouldn't affect anything

ye as far as i can see it would just snap and that would be it new belt sorted as the timing belt is far hidden away from the aux belt

i have just secured both timing belt kit and the aux belt kit including belts from a mate who works for renault for £110 and one of his fitters is gonna fit them for a cash job half the original cost.... pretty good since im bloody brassic at the moment lol

4th in from the left is snapped :rasp:

Ahh well spotted!

On another note, I've just had my car back from the garage and they said that I didn't need my fan belt changing even though I provided one for them whilst they changed the other belt and waterpump

When I had my aux belt done the mechanic (at a Renault main dealer) said to me on collecting the car that they'd done the belt but didn't bother with the pulley kit as it "wasn't needed", a fairly big judgement he was making there saying it'd last another 36k!

If it ever decides to wreck itself one day because of this then they're getting sued to the ends of the earth and back again :)
