Widths vs pinch

Hi All,

I’m new here so need a little help. I’m looking at getting a 182 cup but have a pinch point on the drive I need to work out if I can get past (1810mm wide roughly).

Does anyone have the width of a mk2 Clio with mirrors folded? And I also need to find the height of the mirrors as one side might give clearance on the mirrors depending on height.

many thanks all,

D

3773 mm long
1417mm height
1639 wide (not including wing mirrors)
1911mm wide (including wing mirrors)

Wing mirrors are 14 cm each side. Unsure what they are folded in. Say half, so 7cm?

So roughly 1779 mm. Going to be very tight. If they don’t fold “in half” fully, you won’t make it.

Perfect guys.
No laughing I just sold my old Series 3 Land Rover project today, so the proceeds need to go into something a little more user friendly!😂

you might get away with it. The front wings stick out a bit and with the mirrors folded they don’t look like they sit that much further out. Someone might have a better angle but this is the best I can do on my phone

It’s up on axel stands at an odd angle at the min or it’d just dangle a plumb line of the end of each mirror and measure it for you. God knows what it would come out as with the way it’s sat

Buy my 182, its on coilovers so can be set to the perfect height 😂. Note the mirrors don't have power fold so negotiating that pinch point without mirrors may be fun!
Welcome aboard too. 👍

So it turns out the Clio Trophy I’m going to look at has had a replacement engine fitted. Does that bring the value down long term when it comes to resale if the numbers don’t match?

Intention is to keep it long term, but just wanted to understand what I’d be getting into.

I wouldn't be worried as long as you can verify the mileage of the replacement engine and that it's a 182 engine and not a 172 engine or something (I doubt it).
Unless it's an ultra low mileage trophy I don't think it'd affect value really.

It’s about 115k to 120k miles in total. replacement engine had about 108k on it when it went in.
Spoken with the seller and he suggest fsh for the old engine and that dephaser and belts were done at the time.

Sounds about right to me, but I wouldn't worry too much about the mileage. I'd be more concerned with proof of belts at a reputable specialist, good service history and no rust in the common spots etc.

Looking at these two:

Both have engine replacements

Recent Sachs damper rebuild is also another nice one to have ticked off the list on a trophy. Don't know if you're already aware, but there's an extensive trophy register on cliotrophy.co.uk, so if you know what number car it is, you can see if there's much history against it there too.

417 for example, the one at pitlane, looks like it had a bit of a smash in 2020 to the o/s rear, again not a big deal if it was repaired well and looks like it's had a ton of money spent on it. I think most 1*2s, trophies or not will have a bit of history.

Thanks again, I didn’t know that the trophy site existed, I can see both of the vehicles also have new gearboxes! 😂 If I keep checking they’ll be nearer triggers broom!

What’s interesting is that both have changed hands already within the past 12months. I’ll see if I can view the one in Banbury, it’s a little scruffy but a good starting point

You will likely find that all Clio's (basically of any generation) will have had, or will need a new gearbox at 80-100k... they aren't known for their tough boxes 🤣

Nick from Diamon motors is well known on here and would be a great source of information.

But they are simple and very fun cars and well worth owning!

One last question….and I fear I’m opening a can of worms here!

is the trophy worth the premium over the 182?

Depends on how you look at it so yes and no. It’ll hold value so yes based on that

However, you could get a very tidy 182 for circa 4k, throw a grand at suspension and you’d have something that handled better than a trophy.

If I had 10k for a mk2 Clio I’d be buying a liquid yellow one and turbo it.
