Will a 182 or a phase 2 172 axle fit a phase 1 172?

Need a axle for the car I've just bought but can't find one But if a phase 2 or 182 fit's I can widen my search a bit.

My mate bought a written off 182 and fitted my phase 1 172 rear beam/hubs/shocks/brakes etc.

Don't know if that helps.

Well if he done that then surely I don't have to use a phase one beam!
