i thought they were but would wait for a confident reply from someone who actually knows

there are certainly at least two types for the 172 though - SMI or TRW. not sure if they're interchangeable.

this still doesn't answer your question, but to tell which you've got, you need to scrabble around underneath - there should be a sticker on the bottom of the body of the rack that will identify it as either a SMI or a TRW rack

they're about £400 new but you can have them reconditioned for about £150. guessing your looking at a cheaper s/h one from a 182?
