will the 172 be too fast?

Had a little 306 1.4 during my first year of driving (17-18) and then upgraded (understated) to a 172 cup. Had dodgier moments in the 306 than I have done in the cup. I'd expect most people to have enough sense after a few months of driving to own one and not be reckless.

My first car was a 1l micra, I quite fequently went from that to driving my other half's 172 (also at about your age), as soon as you've got used to the heavy clutch it's fine - like has been said previously, you don't have to boot it everywhere, only drive it as fast as you want!*

*within speed limits of course

its only fast if you stick your foot down. it will be fine just be carefull like in any car

Not that fast anyway....power delivery is pretty linear and easy to control unlike some old turbo cars.
