I often wondered this, im dreading taking my valver in for new tyres (not for ages yet). I would probably say something like they have just been refurbed or are new so please be careful.

Good luck!!

If you go to the right place they wont damage them at all.

Ive got 17" shadow chrome wheels on my car, had a tyre replaced and there wasnt a mark on em. Outside or the inside, the guy was proud to tell me that its tricky but if youre careful they wont get damaged! :D

Unless its Kwik-Fit!! lol

Ask them to put down the wheel protectors, otherwise they could get damaged.

Ive done it before With someones wheel  Luckily it hasnt happend again :D

It depends if your wheels have been painted or powder coated. If they have been painted then i would stand over their shoulder while the do it, coz one tiny slip and your refurb has had it! I anthracited & refurbed a set on my last car and when they fitted the tyres on the mong that did it slipped and put a huge scratch across the face of the wheel. Coz they were silver before it stood out like a sore thumb!

If they have been powder coated then you should be fine. That stuffs pretty durable.

hey, there is a good chance they might get scratched, but if you go to a modern garage someone who specialises in alloys then there shouldnt be a problem, and yes i would tell them to be carefull, in fact i did and the nice bloke even but new bits on his machine to make sure he didnt damage them

make sure the "lever bar" they use to remove the tyre is one with a plastic cover over it, also when they put the new tyre on get them to cover the wheel in tyre soap (the white stuff you see em paint on with a brush)

Mmmmmm.........this again..............well I had all 4 wheels damaged and Liam182 went to GREAT lengths to point out to a Reno dealer that he did not want his wheels damaged well guess what.........they did just that.........so there you go.

There is no reason for wheels to be damaged as long as the machine has been properly adjusted.

Oh and the last time this was discussed 1 or 2 of the guys got a bit hot under the collar cause I was calling all tyre fitters "TO55ERS" even though I did say present company excluded.

Bottom line is yes they can and often do damage your wheels when changing tyres eh.

Im also dreading changing tyres for exactly the same reason.

My cunning plan was to demand to see the Manager/Supervisior (read anyone who has some level of responsibility) and together we inspect the wheels and agree on the current condition and any major scratches. If they do not accept the responsibility to return them in the same condition, or wont do this, then I go somewhere else.

Worth a shot.

i went to national tyres and the monkeys refused to touch my alloys !!!, in the end went to a local bloke who took it of and put it back on no problems (fix puncture)

but out if it I now have 2 spare 182 alloys one fitted with a tyre ready for use.

Id never go to renault again. Ive found a local trye specialist who has proved he can do it, 3 times on the trot.

best of luck.

My front 2 are nearly done after 9K so will have to think about getting 2 remaining exalto 2s fitted before the 12K service so renault dont end up putting contis on or something.

They jacked the car up last time, lifting the rear end by the rear torsion bar under the car, how do they usually lift the front end of the car, which is mount to use?

The I will re order 4 new tyres from mytyres before they go up in price anymore.

Take some digi pics before you go in (on the premesis) then get them to do it! Have a laptop with you too then you can see the big sized pics and compare them to see if any damage has been done.

What cant speak cant lie!

i went national tyres in stockport with my old vts and told him not to scratch the wheels. he warned me that they can get scratched but he did a top job, dreading it when the anthracites need new tyres, might have to get the old spoons out and have a go meself :D
