Williams Clio....

Just got back from a near on 400 mile round trip to collect a Williams 3 that I bought without seeing....:S

WOW!!

Seriously cannot decide wether to keep the ph1 172 or The newly aquired Williams.....

Its seriously seriuosly good to drive. Much better seating position, much better throttle response. And the handling... OH MY GOD! the handling is superb!

In all the years I worked for Renault, all the cars i've owned/traded, i've never driven or indeed been in a williams, but today was the day, and i'm hooked!!

What would you keep?? The Williams is superb, very very good condition and stacks of history, just needs new rear arches to make it mint and show worthy. The 172 has a 3000 mile old Blueprinted engine but s**t bodywork and in all honesty could do with a full respray. I'm now stuck...

and why sir, did you not buy my mint williams 1 instead???? huh???

nah honestly, good buy, keep the williams, its just got the 'special' factor to it, and is much more fun.

Because this one was MUCH cheaper than yours :rasp: Looked at yours many times dude, very nice car!!

It seems quite a special car tbh, everyone looks at it as your driving around. Even a guy in his 40's was having a good look round it at the petrol station tonight.

Ive got to get a drive in one methinks. There is one forsale on a forecourt near me. Only want 900 for it. If youve got deep pockets keep the willy. They are getting more retro atm imo.

so now you have just said what you have, can you see why i am disappointed with the 172 after owning my valver?

i would keep the willy from what you have said about the both of them

Why deep pockets Mells?

I would have thought they were as reliable as any used Renault!

Its had a new clutch/gearbox/cambelt/wheels so all the expensive bits are done.

*edit*

'Boner, the Williams seems to have personality! I'm seriously shocked at how good it is.

I hate these threads when members wade in with how much they cost to run..... b****cks. Mine has cost me very little to maintain and run. I get a combined run of generally 29-30 mpg too.

Too many people with ill informed opinions.

dude you are telling me something that i knew ages ago and kept trying to tell people, mainly people who have only owned mark 2's......glad someone has now experienced this to understand me.

you think the handling was noticeably that much better?

I couldn't honestly say wether th handling was loads better as my 172 suspension is shot to bits (brand new stuff waiting to go on) but the Willy is very chuckable and has no problems with changing direction very quickly where the 172 understeered like a mule. (tried it on my favourite bit of road by me)

I think i'm answering my own question here...

There the bits i meant. Its a 10 year old car. Youll end up with a problem at some point. If you could flog the 172 for a profit keep the willy if its good. Plenty 172s about if you fancy a change.

Sounds good but i hear its not as good as Big Jts's Remault 9.

Are you also joining the retro renault owners club ?

Sounds mint Dan. I've always liked the Williams', but every one I've heard about sounds fragile. If it's as good as it sounds, keep it.

Williams FTW!

I gave it proper rice nearly all the way home, and nothing went wrong, the previous owner never reall had any issues so i'm hoping this ones a good one. :)

Cool. I think as long as any car has had the servicing done at the right intervals and has been looked after, it should be sound. I know there are exceptions to the rule, but isn't there always. I'll have to have a gander sometime then. :)
