Williams conversion

Your looking a paying about £500 to £1k for the engine thn £1k to i it and preferbly another £500~750 to replace all the cam belt etc. Its easier to change the belts when the engines out and much cheaper.

I paid £700 for a bottom end swap over from a broken 2.0 to a working one with 24500 documented miles... that includes engine and labour... so its not expensive at all really

£3k ish if your overhaulin everything, like i did.

None infact that combined would be better IMO.
The Williams engine is a valver with a 2.0 botom end (same as the megan bottom end) with a head with bigger valves. Plus the cams have an extra 1 mm travel I think.
However Williams have usally had a hard life is I swopped my bottom with 100k for a Megan one Id get more power as its most likly in a better condition with better compresion etc.
Uprated cams will make more power than Williams cams.
When you say an upraed ECU I take it you mean a remapped ECU as the stock ECU with new maps is fine for most standard modifications.

well ecu, there are two avenues, remappable chip or omex ......... depends how much im prepared to throw at a 10 year old car.... but i wont get rid of it

hyperthetically speaking then, a sound willy engine, with a good life, of not being ragged at every given opportunity, would still be better than a 2ltr bottom end on a valver engine? Ive spoken to benr before and h said that the cams on 1.8 16v engine often give dissapointing results, how does the 2ltr bottom end change this?

Yep the valvers head is restrictive, the Williams has the better head and bigger valves.
The 2.0 bottom end givs better ratios for surface are or something so cams are much better on 2.0.

Then again trying to find a carefully looked after Williams engine might be a challenge.

ive jus bought a 2litre valver with willy 2 engine and ECU but 1.8 manifold and box, cost £2600

Im thinking of buying a longer ratio gearbox because at 70mph the car is just shy of 4,000revs!! most likely quicker than a 2litre valver with longer box tho.
