Williams gearbox f**ked

My gearbox has just gone and now the car wont go in gear. How much do you think it would cost for a garage to recond it? I live near hill power do you think they will do it? I need it doing really quickly as well. Does any1 know of any gearboxes i can buy like at a scrappy?

a new box from Ren is about 450 and cheaper/easier than getting it recond

box is 550 + vat from reno, you can get discounts to effectively remove the vat tho, i got 15%

does that include the fitting and all? Why is it cheaper than a recond? I heard that a recond box cost under £300?

Doesnt include fitting, it might just be worth buying a new one!

If you put a brand new box in it and not a recon you will have a much better chance of selling the car on the forum!

I paid £900ish for box rebuild, new cam belt and pulley and clutch on my Williams.

The car is already sold mate! this is why i need to do it quick as the people want to pick it up next week if i mess them around they might drop out and then i will have to readvertise. I probably will put a new box in anyway cos a rebuild doesnt seem much cheaper.

Does the buyer know the box is blown? If they want the job done right, let them make the call and pay the additional amount to get it done right if they want.

I just sold my Willy and between first talking to the buyer and closing the deal, I had €1800 worth of work done. I explained to him that he would have had to have it done himself if he bought the car as it was and he gladly paid the full invoice price for the repairs on top of the price of the car.

I am going to tell them but you wudnt believe how unlucky my week has been, my phone has broke and the memory has been lost from it so i cant get in contact with them til they ring me as the numbers were saved on the phone not the sim card and they live 2 hrs away by car, both of my cars are broke, the 106 is having a new clutch. If i tell them they mite back out but its worth a try, maybe they will contribute to the price.

Just tell them that they are lucky as it surely would have happened if they bought the car. If they want it right, they will have to pay just as you wouldnt have sold the car cheaply if the gearbox was brand new and you had the receipts to prove it. Worked for me...

Be firm but fair with them. That is if you can get in touch with them at all...

I am going to try that one mate even if they dont pay the full whack they can at least meet me half way and if they are not willing to do that il send the deposit back and sell it for more to the next buyer with a receipt of a brand new box. Thanks for your advice
