  An old banger!

I really want to sort my engine out on the williams!

I have a filter, full magnex exaust, and de-cat, i really want to get more power and acceleration out of the vehicle, What are the best mods i can do next to achieve this!!! and what sort of prices am i gonna be looking at???? Hoping to get this all done fairly soon!!

Cheers.....:)

The same thing that you can do on every engine...

Wilder cams
TBs

Only this two mods and youll see whozzzz tha mannnn! :)

ahh, get a std valver gearbox on the willy... better ratios... and get the rev limiter up to 7500rpm for top speed in 5th gear.

The standard 16V gearbox has the same ratios from 1st to 4th as the Williams, but the Willy box has a taller 5th for a higher top speed.

I would use the Willy box because it is a tougher unit over the 16V one, with bigger gears, stronger bearings, larger secondary shaft and a beefed-up casing.

Was thinking The willy Box was designed to work well with the extra torque, Id personally leave the williams box in place... Or maybe change the ratios yourself

speak to ben r about a modified head couple that with some wilder cams along with pullies and a suitable chip, you will be flying!

hhhmmm

theres not actually a lot youi can do to the engine other than wots stated above.................trust me iv trawled thru all the reno specialists some seem willing to take the money to do stuff..........stuff that is already done to the max nearly.....

and iv even tried a few local engineering places and also the engineer from kenny roberts racing, all have come up with same story......... cant really do a lot to that mate, not really worth doing cost/gains

the head.........u can polish the tracts, but the inlet doesnt really need doin, the zorst could stand some polishing tho. bigger valves i would say are a bit of a no-no unless u pocket the block/pistons

the fywheel as standard , with all bolts in, only weighs in at 5.4 kgs........can be lightened , but not by much and still be reliable

so tbh mate theres not really a rite lot you can do .........lightening/balancin wise, head works pretty much all done as is, so more power means lookin at cams , t/bs , carbs ,turbo,s/chargers

Far from it mate, the std ports are too large, not that they already flow perfecty, plus each prot side there is a specific shae which promotes swirl and you need to get rid of this to create a straight shot. Exhaust can stand alot of work, valve seats can see a large proportion of the gain, as can different profile valves.....its not jsut about the port mate.

if hes keepin std manifold then the willy head is ok , gains made would prob b negligible, but doesnt the swirl need to be made to mix the mixture properly?

if bodies like ben said the ports are the wrong shape really on the willy...

the valves that are in mine are near enuff race spec profile anyway lookin at how much seems to have been cut back, wouldnt have thought ud av been able to go much thinner, could be wrong tho hehe

I get custom valves made.

And swirl is a economy measure.

there is nothing really wrong with the port shape, its just a bit too large for the intended road purpose.....if were going balls out it has its benefits.

  williams and trophy

yeah its easier to make the round output of the throttle bodies into an oval shape than a oblong-ish shape without losing the flow qualities innit?

all ive done with mine is triple edge the valves n seats, as iv been advised that without goin for balls out full race spec thats all there is worth doin..................is my advisor wrong or wot??????

its a fine line really.... balls out power over drivability....

max power is not always best for road car...., drivabilty is often more important...

Bens heads can give you a mix.... the mapping and cam design etc etc will all go toward a certain power delivery....

we finished a map today on a 172, the guy lives in London so for him mid range smoothness and power were more his requirment so the map suits that.....

all I am saying is there are ways and ways

stan stan stan

When were tuning for all out power, and the higer the rpm and the higher the flow demand your main concern is simply getting all the charge into the cylinder as fast as you can withing the tiny time constraints.

SO, if you get rid of swirl features you get 2 straight shot columns into teh cylinder, without any turbulance affecting each valve, and no random swirl patterns in teh cylinder to hinder the incomming charge.

Is that ok for you?

  williams and trophy

yeah i wanna keep the drivability cos it is the family car after all hehe

but i also want the balls out for drag/track and wen im driving lol

that is why i asked u about a switchable map for it andy really, which could i repeat COULD give the best of both worlds at the flick of a switch.......(repeated cos i dont want quoting as this is wot u said etc lol)

i.e 1 map for me n racing

1 map for the mrs takin the kids to school/shoppin etc

  GDI Demo 182, Rsi Spider

problem with that is... with a "standard map" you will more than likely be running lean.... and that will damage the engine... the map is designed to suit the mods to the engine....

the only way I can think to do what you want is with a turbo car where one map is for a lower boost setting etc etc

  2005 Nissan Navara

or a re-mappable ECU, where uve got 2 maps on disk which u download 2 ECU when u want 2 change.

problem there is:

1) £££ for r/r sessions 2 define both maps

2) being able to determine wot is a good map 4 mpg on the r/r

  williams and trophy

yeah the switchable map was fro the bodies, but seein as tho there guna be a while longer yet..............jus a remap to suit current mods will suffice

as for above qs......

1 about £800 on the rollers should sort it pretty well

2 mpg for the 2nd race map wouldnt b a prob....not really intrested in how much juice itl use on the strip/track tbh lol
