Willy running lean

From the spark plugs ive been told my car is running very lean. I pootle around in it, partly because its not fully refurbed yet so i get silly miles to the gallon (50+). Will this affect the car in anyway? Should i give it a bit of a blast now and then? Some people have said i should.

Cheers.

if its running lean this will be at full chat, not when your at low revs or running enrichment on a cold start up!!??

who has told u its running lean?

did they connect to the lambda sensor?

jay or ben will confirm, if hes still talking to u

nick hill told u its running lean, and thats it? no explanation?

if its running lean, it needs to be fixed, never mind power, that the least of ur worries

detonation leading to component failure

but then if he didnt seem bothered it cant be that bad, his engine knowledge is superior to mine

Well Nick said it may have been cos i was driving it so slowly, and not to worry about it. How do i know for sure what is going on? I have no symptoms except what i was told.

if nick said dont worry, then i wouldnt worry

he wouldnt have many customers if there engines failed

i think its checked on a rolling road with an air/fuel ratio meter

on cruising the mixture is controlled by lambda. lambda controlled engines tend to run lean but it is a feature not a fault. only at full blast on in acceleration mixture will be rich. do an investment, or build it yourself, a EGO a/f meter to connect to the lambda. it is only a few euro and if u can solder u can build one easily. if it is running lean it will show on the instrument.

lambda sensor could be faulty but a ECU diagnostic would show that

you cant read a plug in a car thats old and that has been anywhere near idle. THe plug will only tell you the last few fires its been through, so reading them means you have to cut fuel off (engine off) at the point you want to read.

The real fueling of the engine is shown by the base of the ceramic, which is covered by the thread, the top of the ceramic tells you more about the burn temp.

But you can get a litte info from a glance.
