Willy servicing/maintenance

Im looking to buy a mint Williams in the summer and was hoping someone could help me with a query I have. Where is the best place to get a car like this serviced. Is it safer at a Renault dealer or are they just rip off merchants like a lot of main dealers? I live in Reading so are there any local independent garages round here who anyone can recommend?

Renault (nottingham) wanted £210 for a minor service (oil change and a bit of a poke around underneath). Most local place will want £60-80ish for the same job. Its not really that specialist a car (its just a clio after all!) and it should be fine with most garages.

getting the oil changed etc... you could go to renault and theyd do it for a ridiculous price... if you want the oil done, brakes + air filter then id go to a local garage that would do it much cheaper...

If youre looking to buy a mint williams I would imagine you want one with low-ish mileage, ie: under 72k which is when its cam belt wants changing. Mine is due for this in another 6 thousand miles and there aint no way im taking it to renault.

The way i thought about it was that when was the last time a renault mechanic would have seen a williams.. probably never, unless hed been there for in excess of 6 years. Im going to get mine changed by hill power, at least nick hill is used to dealing with these cars day in day out, plus hes a bit cheaper...

Ive never used my local Renault garage, a: cause there so bloody expensive and b: wouldnt trust them

I always take mine to Lex Autocentre. The same lad works on it all the time, and knows what hes doing with it now. Plus since my car now goes there for all services and M.O.Ts, they knock discount off for any major jobs

The 16v is virtually the same car - so do a topic search under 16v maintenance. The 16v and Williams are a fair bit different from the cooking Clio models and even a Renault mechanic would have probably not seen one in a while. I would always recommend you had it serviced by someone who knows the cars well (if youre in the Midlands then try HillPower or Renatec if youre in Bristol). Ive learnt the hard way to always go to a specalist.
