win 2000 server help! PLEASE!

Web server decided to play silly buggers this morning. Tried to create a virtual directory within IIS and it hung. Rebooted and now just hangs going into windows.

Just rebooting in safe mode to stop a few services.

Unless there has been an update that i dont know about i dont have a clue what has caused it (nothing in event viewer ??- in safe mode).

Any ideas would be great ! .... Everyone needs access - Monday morning nightmare !

Weird problem this. I think it has something to do with the NIC and USB. They share the same IRQ. Booted into safe mode and when i tried to access properties for USB in device manager got blue screen of death! Just disabled USB in BIOS so see what happens.

Been fine for over a year and this morning just decides to die! WTF !

Tried everything! Disabled onboard nic + usb and put a new nic in there. Stills hangs. Sounding more like a virus to me now. Just running a full scan in safe mode and then all i can think of trying a repair. Last thing you need on a monday morning

Can't remember if win server has it, but have you tried a system restore in safe mode? May sound very simple but 75% of the time it does it's job.

had that one before and one of the main file servers ! lol ! (wasnt funny at the time though) took me over half a day to sort that one. was first on my list to check!

give up now and re-installed. tried everything i could possibly think of. even disabled most of the services i could but still hanging on start up.

just service packing it now , wish i hadnt got out of bed this morning.

did you not try last good config? before reinstalling it.

yip, tried it.

just re-installed it and ran the very last update (hot fix for asp.net 1.1). hung ! think i have found the culprit! just updating ALL the drivers on the server now, BIOS and everything and reinstalling again. Not goin to install the last update as above, just going to use the microsoft workaround coz i really cant be arsed doing it again ! ... been here since 7.15am ... want to go home !

Could be a faulty piece of hardware after all that.... Do you have any diag tools like mem test? Although they can take a age to run they can give you valuable results.

LOL m8. I've been off work today, but that reminds me of when the NAS server went tits-up with 2003 SP1. Just in time for the Monday morning rush. w**k, ain't it?!

Let me guess, you installed SP1 then it wouldn't boot? Blue Screen?



We had to clean reinstall one too because of that! HP NAS box running Windows 2003 Storage Server.
