Windows 2008 server

anyone installed it yet?

I had a play around and created a domain and an exchange 2007 cluster.

I must say, 2008 is damn good, its really easy and quick to install, takes less than 30 mins and only requires you to answer about 3 questions, i've got it packaged into our HP RDP (Altiris deployment) and its even easier now.

So easy to add roles and features, and the main page is so much better than the one that appeared when you started 2003 up, its very useful and i've kept it there its so good.

Must say I am really impressed, and its shipped as SP1 for all the people that don't go for a new OS until its got its first service pack.

Its very much like a feature enriched vista, you can even add media player and aero to it etc.

So a thumbs up from me, we are installing it as our new domain next month along with an exchange 2007 and sql 2005 clusters.

We ahve only fully migrated over to 2003 last year though

we get all our licensing free from MS because of our gold partner status so that also means we are under pressure from microsoft to be using the latest and greatest so we are creating a completely new domain on new hardware (hp c-class blades and an EVA SAN) all of which has cost us nothing, so we have got about £250k of hardware and software for free so decided to go the whole hog and be one of the first customers to go 2008, its good for us as a microsoft advocate as we eat our own dog food etc.

And When customers want to go to 2008 next year and want someone with experience to help them we will have implemented it in a domain and clustering so will have that experience, i think its a great thing. From working with it this week its just so slick, and just seems to work, really fast to shutdown and startup, whereas i was having problems with the 2k3 environment built the week before as a comparison the 2k8 setup was much better and had much less issues.
