i have ran xp and vista on my mac through a virtual window (as apposed to mac's boot camp which i dont like due to slowness/ annoyance of having to reboot ) and mac on a pc and found that windows on a mac is much faster and easier to live with then on a pc.
mind you the new mac is rather expensive.... you can stil get the old'er all white macbook for under £750 from pc world.
It is possible but not worth the hassle IMO.
Running Windows on an Intel Mac is much easier because it can run natively.
Bootcamp can use a VHD file like VMWare / Parallels does, so you could use the same image to run Windows natively or virtualized. Just gives you more options that way, plus Macs look good
