Windows Explorer making PC run slow

Why is this?

I have opened task manager and shut down windows Explorer.I have one web page open and have added several tabs to use Cliosport,BBC News,ASN,5Live etc on one page and have found that things are so much faster.Of course the only thing on my desktop now is a picture and l cannot open any files or folders unless l log out and log back in.

Why is Explorer causing this slow down and what can l do to keep things at a good speed?

Windows Explorer probably isn't causing your computer to slow down..

When Windows Explorer crashes and closes it usually closes other tasks along with it..

It's probably a good idea to go through your computer and uninstall any programs you don't use/need.

Then run SpyBot S&D, CCleaner, Anti-virus. Also Msconfig to remove any programs from the startup which don't need to be there..

Most of the time my CPU useage is at 100% but now WE is not running its quite low (below 35%)

If your CPU usage is 100% then what process is using all the CPU time ? explorer.exe ?

i have issues with my old laptop (only 3 yrs old, new one is in for repair) and the processor is running at 100% too.

I can't find the issue, firefox runs at really high %, as does windows explorer, so similar issue.

Been trying to work it out for a few days now.

If you end explorer, you can start it again by bringing up task manager and clicking on file-new task, then type explorer.exe

If I find out what mine is i will let you know. I did disable my AV as that was not helping, am using AVG.

Yes...explorer.exe but it doesn't do it all the time though

Try running process explorer, that will help you identify where and what exactly is the bottleneck. Its a free download.

Best internet explorer is Google's Chrome, runs so much quicker than other explorers
