Windows Firewall turning off under group policy

  Octavia VRS
Strange one - we have a user whose machine intermittently disables Windows Firewall. This is controlled by a group policy and no other users seem to have this problem. All machines are running XP SP2. When you restart this user's machine and she logs on, the firewall is enabled again.

I have taken the machine out of the tree to make sure that the system policy has the firewall enabled and it does.

Anyone else came across this before?

Sounds like something is turning it off, if its turned on when it logs on, as thats when it loads the policy.

yeh that's what I'm thinking, but I thought it would affect other users...unless they are not reporting it!

gpupdate /force

on that PC?

tried that, seemed to be ok for a week then she reported it again today

A fix would be....

If you use a logon script, stick "gpupdate /force" in as a command.

Therefore it will always run the command and get round the problem.
