Windows Media Player

  UR R26R.5, VW Golf R
I have Windows Media Player 11 on my laptop. I've got loads of codecs installed, Divx and fddshow and all that b****cks. However, when I double click on movie files, after the WMP has loaded, the screen goes black for a millisecond, then a number things can happen.

1. The movie will play. Then when I click on exit, the screen goes black for a millisecond again and everything is fine.
2. The movie will open and then the screen goes black and I cant do anything. Reboot.
3. The movie will play. Then when I click on exit, the screen goes black and I cant do anything. Reboot.

Its very annoying when I'm downloading files and it crashes.

What gives?

Could be a conflict with codecs. More than likely in that ffdshow and DivX are trying to de-code the XviD/DivX's at the same time causing the problems. I would remove all your codecs and reinstall latest version of ffdshow and let that do all your Xvids/DivX's, if you need/want DivX player and codecs installed, untick the DivX and XviD support in the setup when installing ffdshow.

I had the exact problems but once i removed everything and followed the above, everything was fine. I also installed CoreAVC and MatroskaSplitter (google both) for playing .TS files and .H264 files, again making sure that when I installed ffdshow (beta version 2.0 I think) I disabled .H264

Bin off that crappy buggy shite. Install VLC player.

Think of VLC being a nice prime steak 16oz and WMP being a piece of bacon, cut from a pig with foot & mouth, cooked in piss.....you get the idea.
