Windows XP 64-bit Pro - for gaming?

Has anyone used this O/S for gaming? I know on paper that 99.9% of games are 32-bit apps anyway, but I'm intrigued to see if there's any difference and/or improvement?

I've got an AM2 Athlon 64 X2 4800 and also have downloaded official XP64 Pro drivers for all of my hardware. I've got the eval 120 day verion of the O/S from MSoft here too, so just wondering whether or not to give it a try, really?

Any thoughts would be welcome! :)

I tried it a while ago also. It was a drive nightmare back then so I went back to XP.

As for Vista, I can't even get drivers that work with my SATA controller!!

Cheers guys.

I'm even more willing to try it as I've got a spare blank SATA drive to hand. Unplug the one containing my 32-bit XP and hoof this fresh drive in to try out 64-bit XP.

The only game I can think of specifically that supported 64-bit was that 400MB+ patch that they did for Farcry. Still, I've got nowt to loose in trying it, have I?

I have been running it as my only o/s for the last 7 months or so only a handful of games dont work. drivers for your hardware will be easy to find more than likely. some games run faster or look nicer under xp64 and the whole thing just seems more stable and quicker than the 32bit version too.

the only issue i heard about was when running a 64bit operating system and using 32bit programs is it uses an emulator to run at 32bit, making a direct comparison with a 32bit operating system running 32bit software slightly quicker than a 64bit running 32bit programs

Theres no performance difference between them to be honest. And only older games i had trouble with really new games cant think of one i had any problems with except battle for middle earth 2. But not sure if that was because it didnt work or the way i acquired it.
