Windscreen Cracked

  Golf GTD Mk7
Gutted!! Hate unexpected costs. I'm with Greenlight at the moment, and not sure if windscreen cover is included? I'm just about to change insurance anyway as the year is up. Options;

- Take out windscreen cover with the new company and clain (I know there is usually excess to pay, but i'm sure it's cheaper than the windscreen will be)

- Pay for the screen outright (anyone know how much they are?)

I've got a FF 182, so rain and light sensor needed in the screen :( Will claiming on the insurance change my premium? Cant be arsed getting insurance bummed

It won't change your I insurance and won't go down as a claim against your name. You will only have to pay an excess of between 50-70 quid.

where the hell does someone pay in the region of £400 for a windscreen ? lol

shouldnt cost you anymore than £200 fitted (with rain sensor) if you go through an independent firm. i know because iv just had mine done

go though your insurers, normally about £50 to be replaced, wont hurt your no claims either.

Most are charging £70/£75, I've just renewed but holding off on a windscreen claim until my new policy starts. Currently got a 12 inch crack!! It seems to have stopped growing for now though.

It doesn't effect your no claims, but you still have to declare at renewal and they still charge you more the following year. Which makes no sense to me at all. w*****s.

I had to claim for 2 within weeks of each other. One was on the Trophy, the other on a courtesy car.

I got my winscreen replaced last year when I was with Greenlight (KGM). Job was done by auto windscreens for £60 (i think) and it didn't affect my no claims.

£60 greenlight are going to charge for the excess. windscreen is standard on there cover so bonus as I didn't think I had it. It won't affect my no claims, but still needs to go down as a claim so will probably affect my premium :( Bit crap, but hey. I'm thinking of leaving it for a bit yet as the MOT (which wouldn't be a problem anyway with the guy I use) isn't due till October and the crack is only up to the wiper blades at the mo.

Structurally is there any implications to leaving it?

I've been driving around with a crack in mine for a yr lol... just never get round to getting it replaced...

  not a bloody clio!!!
These no realy danger in it mate. Police can have a word tho.

When you get through to the windscreen company make sure you tell them its a heat reflective screen (purple tint)

  Golf GTD Mk7
that's what i'm thinking. No rush really. Probably going to be renewing with Greenlight anyway. Just don't fancy it shattering on track or over pot holes etc. I presume they have a sort of film to stop this happening? or have I just made that up?

  Golf GTD Mk7
I might just get the part number from renault and pass that on to the company. Presume they would get them from main dealers?

No mate unless you ask when you book it in for a dealer glass. Some insurance companys wont pay for a dealer glass if the cars over 5 years old aswell. But the clios are a nice job to do never had a problem fitting an after market screen to one :)

anti glare screen you want.

Insurance company should sort the right one.

Never herd of them being called that before

His insurance company wont no what screen he has in his car. When the glass comapnys call center ring up to make the opointment then the rite glass gets picked

it's just with the rain sensors and light sensors also. Not 5 years old yet, but soon, so might get it before that date arrives.

All i was trying to point out to the OP was that if he rings up tells them what screen it is then theres no confusion come fit date.

Autoglass and Autowindscreens work of bonus per job so as many as we can get done the more money come end of the month. If the fitter goes out to his car with a green tinted screen an the fella doesnt no the diffrence then a green tint screen will get fitted.
Just trying to help

thanks for the info guys. I'm with Jam on this. I'd rather drill the correct info into the companies head come ordering just to make sure. The last thing I'd want is to have to take another day off work to get it refitted.

I'm with Greenlight too - got my windscreen done last year
Didn't affect my premium either :D

Ring Greenlight
They give you a reference and the glass company's number
Ring them with the reference
Book the appointment for them to come to you (home/work/mistress's front lawn)
Try to have some sort of cover in case it rains when they come
Let them fit it
Relax for 2 hours before you drive it, don't clean it yet!

Enjoy

flawless service then mate? good to hear. Depending on my renewal quote (due any day), i'll definately be going with them again.

Just to let you know that Autoglass will take your reg number which links into the dvla system this then brings the exact windscreen back that is fitted in your car.
