Wireless- need some help please.

I'm pretty cack with pc's etc so you'll have to bare with me.

My bro went a bought a wireless router as he wants to play ps3 online etc.

He bought this.

The problem i have is that it keeps saying that all not set up properly.
I'm currently running a usb modem.

I've had it so that it says, pc - router (that part is fine as I can pick up a few nreighbours signals) but then the bit for the internet is dead. I've no idea tbh.

The instruction with it are quite usuless. The ones on the cd (of which there are two) are better, but i'm baffled.

I realise that the modem will be redundent. I just have to clue how to work the router. I can't connect to the internet at all.

You need to replace your USB modem with the modem router. Running both will achieve nothing.

Who is your ISP?

I'm not trying to run both. I did as it said, but the internet was dead.

ISP is Madasafish (i know they're pretty poor)

Yep exactly that all seems fine (all green lights etc) that one amber :S

It's a normal cable from a bt socket with microfilters on it etc.

you need to input all your isp setting into the router. To access the router you usually have to enter 192.168.2.1 etc into a web browser. (assuming you have wireless already working on your computer, and its turned on, on the router.

added = sorry MrMark, did not see our reply before i done a quick post.

i have a belkin home network i set up mate. at the bottom of the toolbar near the clock you will have a blue window saying that you are connected to the router (belking 54g)? If so.

Open internet explorer and type 198.168.2.1

if that works it should open up the belkin setup utillity. All i need to know then is what internet service provider you are with i.e aol, talktalk etc and i will tell you how to set it up from there.

Right, your pc is connected wireless or cable??

Type the number (198.168.2.1) in internet explorer (or what web browser your are running).

I take it you want the PS3 to be connected wireless???

With mine i had to tell the router to trust the PS3 so that it would connect. Think it was under wireless settings, then i added device.

If you can connect the PS3 to the router with a Ethernet cable, much better connection.

My pc is normal, i'm trying to install the wireless.

I'll put that number in tomorrow & go from there.

it might not be that address though... to find out goto start run, type 'cmd' and then 'ipconfig'. Your default gateway address will be similar or same as 192.168.1.1, so put that into your internet browser to access the router setup page. iirc Belkin dont have security on as default, so you should be able to change settings as you wish. I installed on at my parents house yesterday, but it's for cable (which imo is much better! lol)

I removed all of the hardware for the current modem, apparently I wasn't supposed to do that ? Was I ?
