wireless query

When i move into my flat at uni the rooms only have a cat5 cable from which i can access the internet, i'm wondering whether a splitter (e.g. one of these - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=280255941990) would let me use the connection for both my pc and xbox 360 simultaneously?

Also is there anyway i could connect a wireless router to the cat5 cable because as far as i know most routers use an adsl cable...

Just get a cable router.. (providing you're allowed to)

There are two types - ADSL and Cable. You need the cable (which is just standard CAT5/RJ45 for the WAN/Internet link)

Those splitters allow you to have 2 devices plugged into the socket at the same time, but they won't allow you to run them both at the same time unfortunately (i've tried)

Yep that would be fine.

But check with the Uni, as it may be against the terms and conditions of the connection.. (they may limit it to one device etc)

Well a router would make it look like you only have one device anyway.

I'd always use one, as it increases security too - all you need is a couple of Computer Science geeks on the same network, and they'll own you without a proper firewall.
