Wobble under Braking

  White Sti Hatch
Just noticed this over the past few days but is starting to annoy/consern me ! under light or heavy breaking the steering wheel wobbles maybe 10mm leftand right.

Whats this a sign of ? tracking ? warped discs ?

cheers

wareped discs are usually felt through the pedal.

maybe wheel allignment, is it a wobble or does it shake badly if you know what i mean

  White Sti Hatch
Well if i apply the brakes the wheel will shake side to side till i stop but i dont feel the car do the same if you get me

  corsa ecoflex
could even be leaking rear shocks as mine used to do this until i noticed my shocks leaking...so i replaced them and the problem went away

maybe track rod ends or something then

or if your discs are badly warped it would cause it, nut you can feel it through the pedal too

I have notice this with mine too, i was having to brake at say 70mph and the car started searching/swerving to the left /right.

Now this ; last time when my car was on the bridge i asked the mechanic if he encountered anything that needed replacing/servicing in the ball joint/trackrod ends. We then both had a look, he said to check this you need to turn the steerwheel full left/full right (depending which side youre checking) . We did this and then he could tell if there was play in the pin (joint connected to hub, trackrod ends ?) and yep, mine had some play. At that time it was'nt noticable when driving , he said they'll be fine but coming MOT they would show up and need to be replaced.

I'm thinking this may also be you problem. Mine has done 70k+ with these same trackrod-end/balljoints.

Excuse my poor english/description but i think you'll know what i mean ?

I'm gettiing a wobble in mine when braking too, and have seen some uneven tyre wear as well

since trev has posted this as well, can i say; spacers?

give them a clean, refit, check weights on wheels are still on (came off mine the other day and caused same issue), while wheels are off do above of looking for lines on discs (warped) and check for excessive movement in disc meaning track rod ends.

Yeah will be having the wheels off at the weekend to have a check and also the spacers off to give them a clean and refit them

MIne were doing that before the spacers were fitted.

check that your brake pads arent out of place or excessivly worn. had a mate who had the same problem. cant remember exactly what it was that was causing the problem but it had to do with his brake pads or discs

Oh well one of my Locking nuts decided to snap while removing it ! end is now stuck in my spacer FFS !!!

Lock nut may have been cross-threaded mate.

That happened 2 of my wheel bolts not long ago - had the hub rethreaded and all was grand :)

Ben_p tried to sort out my sheared off bolt the other evening. just wouldnt budge the b*****d. will have to get it drilled out :(

Dads brining rethreader home from work so will get it sorted, on the wobble front -

Disc looks fin spun it round with no weird noise or movment gave it a shake too no movment from it so for me its a *Shrugs* moment !

been driving round without spacers past day and theres still a wobble under braking i feel nothing through the pedal its all through the wheel.....im hoping the two new fronts will sort it out !

check the wear pattern on all your disks...

that will show if they are wearing down uneven etc...

check all the pads, make sure they look like they are in position...

(i had this rumble on mine)...

turns out my rear caliper had siezed, seen it straight away on the wear...only happened when going at higher speeds...as thats when the rear brakes came into play...
