wobbly gearstick

as above, my gearstick just naturally moves about a wee bit while driving, it doesnt actually move out of gear or that, its just kinda wobbly but I always thought it was just made like that.

take for instance going over a bump, pothole, speed bump etc. the gearknob/stick wobble "on the spot" if that makes sense.

is this a sign of any gearbox issues or do clio gearknobs just move about on the spot a lot cause they do?

take for instance my dads Vectra if I'm driving it and its in gear and I try and give the knob/stick a wee shake its solid and wont budge, whereas my clio one will move about on the spot if you give it a wee shake, in exactly the same way as if you've got the car in neutral and you give the lever a wee shake and a wobble about it will move.

if what I said makes sense is there something to worry about or is it just a characteristic, my old Peugeot 206 did it too and it was just a characteristic of the gearknob on it.

Bearings maybe wearing? Someone told me once that you can wear them out quickly by always having your hand resting on the gearstick, is this true? F*cked if I know.

It is normal for the Clio II. They all do it. It is because the gear link is not made of cable (that is the best) but of solid sticks. Therefore the gear stick will move a lot more than if Renault used cables.

phew! I wondered why my gearstick/knob kept moving about on the spot when the car was in gear.

now I know.

cheers bud.

Mine do not do it when idle. Only when I am driving - specially when accelerating and on uneven roads.

I have driven another DCI and that did the same as mine.

get some uprated dogbone mount bushes from ktec. Stops all this (in gear movement).... but the trae off is the car slightly vibrates at idle lol|!
