Worrying brakes - Greenstuff or more probs....

  Mazda 3 MPS Mk1
I have been out for a "spirited" drive this evening and after around 5 mins of quick B road driving i found that my pedal went rock hard, and there was little if in fact any urgency or bite to the brakes. When slammed my foot down it would nearly lock, but only if i really hammered the pedal.

Is this likely to be the pads that have caused the issue through overheating??

Or more likely a case of desoerate need of a fluid change??

For info i have

Greenstuff front pads (fitted when i bought car :( )
Braided front lines
Brembo HC Discs
and fluid changed around 18 months ago.

Im thinking its just a continuation of the awful Greenstuff experience i have read about so many times and am gonna give fred a ring to try and get some ds2500's asap especially as i have rsport trackday at silverstone on 4th!

Cheers

Ah and I I had a quick look at the reservoir when I got back, not sure if it should look like there's fluid on it....

Do these leak if fluid gets shagged??

brake fluid is more flammable than petrol!!

So which french genious thought it'd be a good idea to put the brake fluid resevoir just above the exhaust manifold?

I imagine it was the same person who decided that the parts desk for Renault Derby would be shut today. I'm still trying to get me a dephaser!

not much choice in where you can mount a reservoir really. Same place on most cars

Let me know if you dont get one ordered tomorrow and i'll sort it

my own place near Bedford in a few weeks time :)

Sorry to hijack but.. Where abouts in Bedford and what do you do? Im from Bedford you see lol.

But brakes dont sound too good, my brothers 182's brakes dont seem the sharpist to be honest, dont know if theyre all like that or they maybe on the verge of needing to be changed.

Not in workshop yet. I'll let the location be known when i'm in, but I do a range of services, basic maintenance, through to whatever you want doing really. Primarily clios of any type, but happy to do most cars.

Happy to have a look at the brakes, should be able to tell if they're working fairly easily

Danny, gimmie a shout when your up and running as i might need brakes doing soon plus a service and some other bits, your about half the distance i would usually take to ktec.

My reservoir always looks like that. Especially after track work and brakes seem pretty sharp to be honest. You'll get a small amount of seepage.

DS2500 pads are very good. I've had 2 sets on my 172. I have Brembo HC front discs, DS2500 front pads, rear discs are standard with EBC Green pads.
