Worth a punt?

Managed to come across someone selling a 1999 Punto with only 45K on the clock.

They said I can have it for £170.

They said the thermostat needs replacing and a new battery.

Now, a broken thermostat could cause it to overheat, how can I tell that nothing more sinister is causing it to overheat? i.e.; head gasket?

Would you go for it?

a 1999 punto is worth about £595 to sell if it's in VERY good nick. By the time you've fixed it, cleaned it, put a new MOT on it, advertised it, dealt with immigrants asking you to take £300, is it really worth it??

Ah this isn't the best nick, it's average. Has a dent in the rear quarter and could do with new hubcaps (lol) and a good clean.

Just worried it being the HG!

But that's my opinion don't really like them deffo punto's

And the bearings in the box are going. Punto's are nothink but trouble.

I've had nothink but trouble with em and I've repaired loads

Electric steering motor is another common thing on some punto's aswell.

Yeah Ste, just not worth the risk of it being the HG if there is only a couple of quid to be made from it.

Yeah I had one went and got my luck with it was.

Exhaust fell off.
Release bearing wasn't no good and to top it all
Sunroof started leaking

Only made £50 on it just wasn't worth time.

Plus also fixed family's and others with elec motor battered

Gearbox falling apart

There just not worth any time of the day.

Now corsa's am good to make money from had 1.0l paid 150 for it. Head gasket had blown repaired it and got £485 for it.

All it cost was head gasket kit which ain't dear.

Yeah, I've heard about Corsas being a good little money spinner! Just takes time to find the gold mines, you know?

Yeah that's true I dropped lucky with that 1.0L.

Old cars am the best really I bought mk3 escort needed work done it an made a tidy profit on it same with fiesta's they sell good to.

Saw a MK1 Fiesta the other day but arches etc were rusted quite heavily.

Common but if you can get one fix it sell it on the right fourm there worth a gold mine.

Same as mk1 golf like my old one.

I had a cabriolet gti spent hundreds rebuilding the engine interior and bodywork.

Think paid £350 for it got a good return on it. But didn't sell straight away fell in love with that one lol I'll upload a pic of it

Corsa for £150 fit new head gasket and sell on for £485! More hassle than its worth imo lol.

Was Phoon spent some money on it tbf just wish I never sold it.
MartinR difference being is clio's am all round better than punto's fair anuff they suffer with elec problems same with all cars.

Not really was only 3 cylinder with chain driven. Can't remember how much head gasket was but wasn't much at all few hours of my time done gone made money.

It's not the big amounts you make like people bang on about. The small amounts add up quicker.

In that case if you want big profit from one car go buy cat d/c for fraction of price repair sell for a lot more.
