Would a new RS Clio Cheapen the range

Just out of interest would a new say erm "special" clio ruin the clio range as it stands?

It would work like this

182
182 cup options
HELLO NEW MODEL/VERSION
V6
would people be pissed off? would it sell?

depends if it was worth the extra money?

i dont think it would cheapen the range, theres not a massive choice at the moment, only 3 cars! depends whats going to be available and when!

I think its wringing the neck out of the range doing that.

The 182 is an improvement over the allready good 172 but not a drastic improvement.

To bring out another before the new range would be pointless and tacky IMO.

How would it improve over the 182 ?

More power,a few cosmetics...Nah,no point !

If they did that id be wary buying a new model Renaultsport for fear of buying it only to see it updated.

172 and cup dont exist in terms of current range/new cars, not much point in using them as examples in this particular discussion.

i think it would sell, but maybe if it was cheaper than a 182, a proper cup version*!

*im not saying the 182 with cup opttions isnt a 182-cup, before you start moaning at me!

To bridge the gap more between the 182 and V6?

Maybe.. a 182 (aka, 300?) Turbo 4x4 or something, hehe.

I think it will sell. The RenaultSport brand is starting to mean something in th uk imho. A Renaultsport Clio 182 Turbo will suit me very nicely.

I think we can ditch the turbo idea for now.

The information i have on the next RS clio/s points to them being NA

OK. Are we talking this generation of Clio or the next? Mr. Townsend has said that there wont be another RenaultSport Clio until 2006... a year after the new Clio comes out....

Im talking about the current range, did mr townsend actually say that?

  172 cup,s2 rs turbo

price and performance would say if it sells etc. a turbo version is what renault is missing i think.

I fancy them sticking the new magane engine in the "special" clio so it would be a Clio Renault Sport 225 or they cud take 2hp of and say its a 222. Or if they want to be kind liberate 7bhp more and call it 232.

They would have to keep with the cars excellent handling tradition. And for people to want it it would have to look a lot more agressive than the new cudly shape does.

I hate the new shape its like a megane not wuite as peculiar looking but im not a fan. I think the meganes new shape is a love or hate thing. I would also like a ltd edition light weight version of the new clio but theyd have to come up with something other than cup. If they dont make a 225 and they dont make a lightweight version of the renault sport model im afraid the Cup with be the only clio i own and i will convert to other things.

There cant be much left in the 2L n/a engine bhp wise, it would have to be a special/exclusive effort. Stripped out 182, megane engined, megane engined stripped out, or just a nice new ltd paint job, interior and alloys.

To be honest, a 2**bhp clio is getting a bit much in a fwd supermini. It would be fun, but you would trash tyres in months with all the wheel spinning and the understeer would be enormous.

wouldnt a 220 turbo clio be a waste of time ? It strugles to put down 182 bhp without electronics to keep it in check.

With 220 bhp your are close to fwd power limit.

I dont think reno need another clio....unless it was a lightened 182 without toys...now theres an idea ;)

No need for a turbo.

Honda manages to get a good bit more out of 2l in the S2000. How does 240hp sound? If I want a 2 litre turbo Ill go up a class to the Scooby or Evo.

Naturally aspirated engines are more responsive and as long as the car is light, you dont need gobs of horsepower.

By the looks of it the next ClioRS model WONT be turbo. despite the MegRS.

I cant see anyone breaking the 200bhp barrier in this class for at least 5 years. its not needed.

No no what they want to do is forget about more power - traction is the problem, so the gap between 182 and V6 should be filled by a 4WD Clio running say 250bhp. Then to avoid outdoing the V6, the V6 should be supercharged to around 350bhp.

Look at the new Focus on the front of Autocar this week. After the Focus RS was kind of slated because it was too much power through FWD, they are planning on a 300bhp 4wd version. And why not!

Depends how you drive.

The old limits dont apply today modern electronics help.

There are 750hp FWD cars out there which are all fine they cannot use all there power probably in the first 2 gears but they do survive.

what about the article in autoexpress this week stating that the fiesta RS is now going to have 230 bhp according to ford rather than the 180 first estimated! Now thats a fast car and surely the fiesta would be fwd?

Mate im a ford contractor, if i has 230bhp i will give you my 182.

Nah, i think they should seperate the performance gap between the 182 and the V6 more, dont get me wrong 255 BHP is massive for a clio, but a Supercharged V6 running 350-400 BHP would be simply awesome, even if it was just for the noise! :D
