Exhaust blowing can often sound like a misfire.

if it's before or very close to the lambda sensor then it's possible

That is good news, have a prob just after the cat and I think this may be why I have had misfiring.

If its after the cat then the flow is past the important lambda, I would start looking elsewhere for the problem if youre 100% sure it is misfiring.

depends if the leak is before the second 02 sensor. if so then its taking a false reading to the ecu an could be causing it to missfire or run poor..... that is if there are 2 sensors before and after on the 172????
