Car  MK2 PH2 & E46 330
my mate who works at arnold clark fitted some tyres for me the other day.

he told me id fail MOT for my car being too low?

apparently you have to be able to fit your hand between the arch and the tyre?

Im on 195/50/15s on an RT. I cant fit my hand in at the rear :dapprove:

that cant be right? whats that citroen with the wheel arches that cover half the wheel called?!

Lol at fit your hand between car and tyre. Can think of a million and one sports cars/ supercars that you couldnt do this on.

You wont fail mot on your car being lowered mate.

I thought the only way you would fail the MOT was if your car couldent be drivin onto a ramp without causing damage to the bodywork ???

Nup, as lots of cars have trouble with ramps, and need planks to get on them without hitting the front spoiler.

Ah right never knew i just remeber some one sayin what i said....but saying that shouldent be a problem ne way dont you get sunken ramps in garages now anyway ?

no you cant fail for that, and we use to have loads of problems with low cars getting them over the pit at my old garage
you can however fail if the top of your arches dont cover the tires
and you can also technically fail if there is insufficent clearence between the wheel and any other part of the suspension or body part
and a definate fail if the wheel rubs.
we had a clio the other day with 17's and there was literally 1mm clearence between the shock and the tire

my rear tyres rub when i hit bumps at speed.

they wont drive the car though, so therefore not a fail
they can only fail what they can see without removing anything on the mot ramp

depends on the tester! some standard cars rub on the inner arches on lock, but being sensible, a car is only ever fully on lock if your trying to park etc, so your hardly going to rub they tyre away, discretion of the tester!

not once seen that on a standard car and i wouldnt buy the fooker if it did, spend millions on designing a car and cant even figure out wheel clearences??
dont think so,,,

Some audis with big rims! it depends on circumstances, if someone drives out of a drive on full lock, it is rare! does happen though i assure you! i have seen a few in 3 years!:approve:

lol at failing for being too low,
we took 3 attempts at getting my car even into the garrage, anded up getting reversed in as it was too low, then wow getting it on the ramps was interestting.
the front bumper nearly got taken off, took 20 mins just to get it on.. passed fine

agreed,as long as there are no real chucks out of the tyres, making them dangerous then it should be fine mate
