would it be stupid

ok so i have the challenge of fitting a new CV boot this weekend, i know you can get special CV boots that are split down the middle and you seal them up when they are on, was thinking if i could split the one i have , put it on and then, glue it??

or would that just be silly?

cant be mythered with taking the CV off and all that, but i guess im probably going to have to

Will be fine for a weekend. i ran my old 172 with no CV boot for about 2k miles!

Sounds a bit messy. Perhaps when you pack it with grease it may become difficult to get the glue to stick?

nah its for a MOT, as it failed as the one on it is fooked but i didnt know

plan is to do it this weekend then re mot it next weekend

split boots have a tongue and groove arrangement down the seam. You dont pack them with grease until the glue is set. They tend to be a quick fix for MOT purposes but dont last that well. Do it properly once IMO, the CV is easy to get off on renaults. Though TBH, just bring it down and do it here

is it really fooked or has the clip just come off. The boot is plastic not rubber so rarely get damaged and the standard clips come off all the time

its hardly a pop down the rd tho is it danny lol,

£70 worth of fuel just to get there n back, would be cheaper just to take it to a garrage,
pretty sure ill be able to do it myself

Just change it imo, any cheap/quick fixes and you'll only end up doing the job twice. A CV boot is hardly anything major to change in the grand scale of things.
