Would removing acoustic valve cause irratic idling ?

My 172 is in at the Renault stealer(it is still warrantied) at the moment to get checked for the cause of its irratic idling http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=309437

They have just called me to say the bios valve (acoustic valve) in behind the passengers side wheel arch i missing and the vacuum pipe from it has been plugged with a bolt and the electrical connector going to it is taped up and hung back out the way and because it has a k & n panel filter in place of the original paper one :nono:

And say this can be the reason for the irratic idle :S

But if it aint been there and the cars ran like that for a year and a half problem free, why would it happen now ?

Would it be because there is a decat fitted ?

The decat was fitted in november (and no probs or lights on till now-check link to thread above for more info page 3 or 4 i think)

Could this be right or are the speaking b****cks ?

There jerking your chain mate, Renault look for anything to "slippery shoulder" a job.

Its probably going to be the TB.

Are you sure the vacuum pipe is blocked off properly? That would cause a bad idle.

The vacuum pipe must be blocked of properly as its been running fine till now :S

The AA guy said its sealing no probs and checked the little black vacuum pipe for the acoustic valve, he checked from the the plenum back to where its blocked off by a bolt for pin hole leaks/leaks and nothing.

And the idle wouldn't go that high if it wasn't properly blocked off would it ?

What a bunch of w*****s

If it needs a tb why try and spin off its the acoustic valve ?

As it'd just be getting sent back in if i drove it away and it happened straight away (the dodgy idle).

  Mk4 .:R32
I'd re-seal the vacuum pipe and maybe clean the throttle body.

1*2s are known for irratic idle anyway.

I don't have my car :(

Hopefully they'll have brains to do that :rasp:

And if they try and sting me for an acoustic valve they can f**k off

The tb is clean, it was wiped out with a rag and brake cleaner a few weeks ago ;)

Just a thought.

Even though i've been told by many people including a mechanic its the tb or throttle pedal thats the issue.

Would it not make more sense to replace throttle body and see if that makes a difference ?

If no change out the throttle pedal ?

Rather than f**king about wasting time with an acoustic valve

They'll have an idea that it is a possible throttle body or pedal problem as i told the guy at the service desk when i dropped car off last night and he amended the job card and got me to check the info was correct and sign the new one.

Would there be any problesms with acoustic valve not Being there ?

Or the catlytic convertor ?

Mines fine ;)

Like I said jerking your chain!

No doubt, i bet its clueless apprentice thats looking at car

What light would come on if the decat was causing problems ?

The one below the petrol light ?

or the yellow engine light (shown below)and the one below the petrol light ?

No it would be the one by the 160mph in the second picture. Its not problems as such its just the post lambda telling you the fumes are to high.

Ok cheers, that'll be the next thing.

They will be calling and saying its the decat causing the light to come on and the idle to go funny.

Lol :D

I'd go along the lines of if your 100% sure it is due to the AV I'll gladly put it back on but i expect to be reinbursed for my wasted time if it doesnt work (which it wont)

I denied i removed it and it was like that when i bought car.

If they want to try it with one, they can get one and fit it themselves and try it.

Ecka's http://www.cliosport.net/forum/member.php?u=19818 172 Cup is in the same garage at the moment getting a tb fitted as he had an engine light on and it went off, they'll pinch his A Valve and try that instead of trying a brand new one.

Lol :D

No, but would they really get a new one out the stores and open its packet fit it ?

To try it and it makes no difference ?

NO renault stealers are clued up to my knowledge as once when I took my car back for a not starting correctly, as it miss fired for the first ten mins or so. They said they couldn't fix it because I had an induction kit and non standard disk brake that invalidates my warranty, and then basiclly told me to f**k off. In the end it was throttle body i changed and all was well.

  Astra van,Mk1 nova
well thats me sorted:) they fitted a brand new TB as they said it was a internal problem, spoke to one of my friends at the garage about yours mate and they said it also might be the censor on the pedal or something, think thats what there going with anyways

Lol

I thought if you had put on uprated discs in place of standards and an induction kit.

All that would do is invalidate those parts o your warranty ?

Not the whole thing :S
