Would you buy a new mk 2 clio

  Golf GTD

why not buy an older model, as suggested, then colour code it.

will still be cheaper, and will look better as the coding on the extremes i have seen looks suspect.

I did think that, but I dont think she would be bothered with the hassle of getting it colour coded, plus th extreme 4 has got a different front bumper to other models I think.

I thought the extreme 4 was just a 1.2 16V? Didnt know they did more powerful engines in it.

Like 182_Blue I have seen some good prices (around 7k) on 05 models with delivery miles (again around 10-20miles) and as said before depreciation is bad on every new car. I dont think it will be any worse on this clio because as Jeremy has stated this version will be sold alongside the Clio 3 for a couple of years.

If all she wants is colour coded bumpers, then buy the earlier model extreme and colour code em yourself for about £30s worth of materials! Then you will save a packet!

The girlfriend is looking at buying a new car, and likes the clio extreme4. As it is a limited edition and hasnt been around all that long, she is more than likely going to get a brand new one.

Is this a good idea with the mk 3 clio coming out later this year? I cant help but feel that not only is she going to get the normal depreciation that all new cars get, but the price is going to fall even further when the new model clio comes out!

She has got an OK price, the car she is looking at is normally about £9,700, but they have offered it for about £8,200. So the loss might not be as bad if and when she came to sell it in a few years time.

I was just wondering what everyone elses thoughts were on this?
I made the mistake of buying brand new 2 years ago (it was a Clio, although it doesnt really matter what it is), £9k for a Dynamique and despite covering barely 18k in about 2 years I struggled to get £4500 for it.

I would never do it again, let someone else take the hit and get a nearly new or 1yr old one. I guess the Extremes wont be too bad as they are only £6995 brand new when you shop around arent they? Its one of the only Mk2s that Renault are going to continue building when the new Clio arrives so they will be around for quite some time yet.

personally, unless ur loaded, id get a clio which is a year or so old. let face it the clios probably the most common small hatch in the uk and there isnt exactly a shortage of them... meaning people have to sell cheap to shift them:

in the last 6 months the weve bought (girl freind & me):

03reg 1.2 16v dynamic (1 owner, 16k milage) £4k

52reg 172 (1 owner, only 11k milage) £7.2k

plus both have warranty left

I would never buy any new car unless I had money to throw away.

Ive owned new-ish cars and still lost wads of money on them.

The depreciation on one of these will be massive.

I bought my last car new and it was worth half the value 2 years later when i sold it... so never again, older cars from now on, ill just buy top model for that line
