would you swap valver for calibra turbo

been offered a part ex on my valver with a k-plate calibra turbo thats had a FWD conversion. what do you reckon to this guys? anyone know anything about calibras?

If it was just any tatty 16v then maybe.... but if we are talking about your 2.0ltr black clio 16v - then NO! your car is mint m8, stunning in fact i wouldnt swap that for a dirty calibra!! Im not a lover of any vauxhall tho so maybe my view is alittle baised. You would never get the same level of enjoyment from it as you would your clio partly due to the fact they dont like corners. If its straight line performance your looking for, maybe.

PS - what happened to the audi S3 idea anyway?

When you say a FWD conversion, you mean theve turned the chip around that desides whether its AWD or FWD? And in my opinion, you will want the ease of switching between the two.

Well, it aint had a fwd conversion, it just means that the transfer box is f*cked (common fault) and they aint had it fixed...

Not cheap to fix either, youd be into 4 figures there!

Why would someone convert a calibra turbo to FWD its AWD as standard? That would get me wondering if its had a crash or the rear gearbox bits have snapped if its been tunned to much.

I wouldnt swop though it would cost more to run I think.

checked out the FWD conversion, done with a company called VTS, they do a conversion for 500 quid, its meant to be a cheaper alternative to getting the transfer box fixed/replaced. car looks and sounds good, its somat different..........and rockport, it aiont my black 16v, sold that a while ago, now got this

The running costs of my mates Calibra was huge, it cost him a fortune in fuel.

Vauxhall seems to be the only manufacturer that can consistantly make me feel travel sick in their range of cars.

youve gotta ask yourself if the calibra is so good, why will the owner swap it? the words dont, bargepole, and wouldnt touch with, spring to mind.

I always like Calibras, especially the Turbo model. However, now I see them and cant stand them. They are pretty damn fast alright, and although the FWD conversion has been made, Id much rather have the 4WD (although this does mean when you change a tyre, you change ALL 4 tyres at the same time - oh and the transfer box is the most fragile thing in Vauxhall history)

Id say keep your valver, and if you do want to upgrade to a turbo, either convert your own or go for an Impreza. Cheap as chips these days and very reliable, moreso than a Calibra, and with 4WD too

If you dont have the cash to opt for those, then stick it out with your clean dream!

When Calibras came out they were modern looking coupes.Now they look dated.The Clio was never really cutting edge in the looks dept and so hasnt dated.They still look nice today.

If someone skimps on getting the transfer box fixed,what else have they skimped on?The transfer box is always thought of as poor but from what Ive read its more down to poor maintenence than weak parts.

havent read all the thread but from the original question, NO WAY! they are cavaliers in a dress! keep the clio, you woud be dissapointed with a calibra

Keep your clio it looks mint, the calibra turbo aint that good IMO have driven a few and wasnt that impressed with them.
As to the one I have MOTd they tend to be sheds if not looked after.
Avoid that one

To be honest a calibra on a K plate well i would personally given the choice keep the valver. Plus £500 for a FWD? sounds cheap. I wouldnt touch it with a barge pole mate!
