Wrap instead of heat shields

The mid and rear exhaust heat shields on my 182 are in s**t condition, to the point where some of the mount points have crumbled. One is now loose and rattles.

Instead of trying to find replacements from a car being broken, I’m wondering whether a heat wrap would work just as well.

Has anyone done something similar, or has advice? I’m mostly wondering if I need to wrap the whole thing from manifold back, or if I could get away with just wrapping it from the cat back. Maybe some barrier sheet on the body too?

Also, it’s not an MOT failure to not have the shields as long as you replace them with another effective solution, is it?

How hard do you drive the car? If you just drive normal and its just the very rear chances are you wont need the shielding at all, and its not an mot failure if they are not there.
