WTF, are you MAD!? Insurance costs for a 30yr old.

  Transit & Death trap
I've just had a quote on confused.com and I'm getting results of around £700+ to insure an unmodified £800 Ph1 172 and as a 30yr old male, with 6yrs NCB, doing less than 2000 miles per year and for social/domestic use only, that's mental!
WTF is that all about, why on earth is insurance SO high on such a cheap runabout? I understand my Slough postcode doesn't help, but £700 is full on crazy considering my age and NCB:mad:
Anyone know a dirt cheap insurance company?

A lot of 172/182's have been written off.

Alot are run and insured by the higher risk drivers (young/male) this coupled with how many are owned on our shores make them exceptionally expensive to insure, unfortunately.

Try Brentacre, i'm 37 with maximum no claims and only pay £450 fully comp, with unlimited mods,
and I live in Coventry which is a sh*t hole.

I've spoken to Adrian Flux and they weren't any better than my last policy at £700 with Admiral, saying they couldn't really match on unmodified. Been told my occupation doesn't help, I drive a van and for some reason, rather than praise for my extensive hours of driving everyday, I get penalised:(
Damn you stereo typical ''white van man'' LOL.
Thanks for all the suggestions, I will be making a few calls Monday morning, need to insure something before my NCB expire.

Anothet vote for Brentacre. Paying less than Dave for my clio, 26, 6 years no claims. Helps I don't live in Beirut ;)

WOW, thought I had something to winge about! That's truly insane £72k.

You could insure your car 80 times, for the price it costs him to insure his once.

It does say he finally got quoted 2.5k however. Lol.

I think what's really p1ssing me off is, I've had various other quotes via confused.com for an 07 Audi TT 2ltr & 3.2 and a TVR Cerbera 4.2, both were between £750 - £900 fully comp! Seems really odd that an £800 172 either TPFT or FC has the same premium as one of the above.
I'll def' be trying Brentacre and Greenlight, I need a sub £500 premium asap.

Try a modified policy. Stick a panel filter and exhaust on, strange but it can help drop the price through a specialist.

Also another vote for Brentacre!

That's odd i was only 24 with 7 NCB and an SL postcode and got quoted 600 from confused. Having said that was cheaper for me to insure a 4.4 supercharged jag than a 172

You're at the nicer end of the SL postcodes... If that's possible;).
It does seem odd how that works, but this was the reason for me breaking my last 172, couldn't justify the insurance costs.

Get a different car or move?

Not really an option, I don't have to insure this car, I'm just looking at keeping this 172 I bought instead of breaking it and thought(hoped) I may be able to get it for a reasonable price considering the value.
I have a company van and don't really need a car, but it seems a shame to let my 6yrs NCB expire, might have to find a £100 sh1t box to insure for peanuts just to keep the NCB.

Haha not sure it is possible if you see some of the pond life round here!
When I changed to the cup my insurance said it would be the same unless it was worth less than £1800 as that puts prices up!

Neil @ Green light has been unreal with me and the T.

Admiral wanted £1200 fully comp with 5 years NCB.

Went with neil and got it down to around about the £450 mark with agreed'd value and declared mods and a named driver.
