Why not coat the whole thing in fiber glass that would have a low heat conduction rate compared to the metal, not sure if it would melt though.
My 16v came with a 57i fitted, if Im driving on country lanes at med - high speed the powers always there. for general town / commute driving where traffic lights are involved, especially on a hot day, the power can just die as if the engines flooding. I think this is due to the filter sucking in hot air so Im either gonna buy a renault filter box and performance element or find a way of keeping the hot out.
The Heroes box above actually looks like a good shape to fit over my 57i and could be used as a template (or easy to knock up a bigger template) to cover in something insulating . Then just need some fat tubing and an intake (other posts suggest fog light hole) et voila - home made Viper.
Why does no one seem to mention using bonnet vents for hot air to flow out of the engine (along with bumper intake) and to get a cold air flow across the filter? Wouldnt this work? (sorry if they have but Ive sifted through pages of posts without a mention).
