exactly i'd start losing packets but the ones that get through would be that same as they were at the start

My Uni did a lot of work on this.

They only got drop out (of which was noticable to the user, eg when a picture breaks up on freeview) on the cheapest and longest cable tested (20m in length). All the other cables in the test would look the same to a person viewing them.

Some of the 'expensive' cables fell down due to poor electro plating of the gold to the conectors causing oxidation under the gold.
