Xenon light not working

  182 FF
Hi all
my nearside Xenon stopped working this morning (182).
I had a quick look under the bonnet and found that the rubber cap at the back of the light unit had come adrift and there were signs of water on the bits beneath.
From what I read after searching on here, it could be a bulb, ballast or ignitor - all of which would really need the bumber off to fix.
I spoke to my tame mechanic this morning and he says that they can plug into the cars diagnostics to see what the issue is and take it from there without stripping the front off, (although they can't see me until next Saturday, which isn't ideal as it would then be another week after that before it was changed out).
Does this diagnostics check sound correct to you guys?
Any ideas on prices for each of these? (I'm told the bulbs should be replaced in pairs, if thats where the issue lies)

Has the bulb been pink recently? That's normally A sign of the bulb wearing out.

Mine was working intermittently, I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it works fine now.

Probably worth a shot

Or you could swap the bits from the other side via process of elmination and it'll tell you exactly what you need?

the two sides were slightly different colours, but I wouldn't say 'pink'

Yeah they start to go off colour before they go, mine went a weird green-ish colour until it completely went.

Best off swapping bits from one side to the other to find what's not working.

Sounds like a plan.
Out of interest, once I find out if it is the bulb, ballast etc etc where do you recommend replacements to come from?
Dealers will no doubt be top dollar. Halfords? Ebay?

Hmmm, oddly enough the light came back on this evening but with a noticeable pinkish hue to it.
Fingers crossed it is just the bulb that's on the way out. Suppose I'll find out next week when the new bulbs arrive

New bulbs fitted and all is now well :)
Bumper didn't have to come off. I couldn't get my hands in the gaps but my tame mechanic has little hands so he did them in ten minutes.
