XENON LIGHTS

I was wondering about this....

The MK2 172 have xenon light units, while my MK1 172 , doesnt.

Now i looked closely and it looks like the XENON unit (inside the head light) is the same as the non xenon unit inside the MK1 head light.

Do you think it would be posible to install this on a MK1 172 ?

Did anyone tryed that ?

Thanks.

is it not just a different bulb ?

Halfords Sell Normal bulbs, Laser Blue bulbs, All Weather bulbs and SUPER BRIGHT BULBS the superbright bulbs use XENON gas.

Duno. just a thought

Why do you even want Xenons? When they go out of sync they blind other drivers like main beam, i wish theyd never been invented!

yes you can actually do this but you need to mod the mk unit quite a bit. it would have a lot of hardware sticking out the back.

I have noticed that cars with lenses eg Clio 172 Mk1 dont really work with blue coated halogens (Philps Blue Vision/Piaa), but they do work quite well with reflectors. If you were to spend about £50 on one of the PIAA range bulbs, which have a "bluer" coating they might just work. Shoparound

On the other hand if you were willing to spend £400+ you could get some xenons/hid. They are not really road legal, because you have to have auto height adjustment to them to meet EC rules, but you dont really need to worry you could say that are fitted as standard like the Mk2 172 in event of a meeting with the police. The reason why they are so expensive is because the bulbs cost about £80 and the balast that powers the bulbs to 1000V+ is also expensive. I think that most car manufactures use the Philips kit (BMW, Merc, Audi, Renault etc).

Here is a link from America that shows you some pics of the conversions. I think the Mk1 172 has H1 Bulbs, which is an easy conversion.

My wording sounded like the xenons are not legal, what I ment was that they are ONLY legal with autoheight adjustment eg 172Mk2. Lots of cars have had xenons retro-fitted (that have no auto-height-adjustment) but only for off-road use. But everyone ignores that fact, but as long as you have the height correct, no one will compain.
