Yet another Hybrid question

  Clio 16v
I wasnt going to do one of these conversions but think my clutch is on its way out so thought about maybe doing it myself by taking out the engine, and then got thinking why the engines out why not change the bottom end for the Megane. If i decide to do it does anyone know:

How much it costs to get the 16v ecu remapped or ist it cheaper to put the williams one in?

Is it easier to take the engine out the top or drop out the bottom?

Has anyone got a bottom end for sale?

This will have to be done on a relatively tight budget so just gauging if its worth doing. Sounds like good fun from what ive heard.
Im based in Leicester and is difficult to find someone to do the clutch for reasonable money so thought i might do myself.

Just want to know peoples opinions.

williams one will just plugh and play yes. for a proper re-map at somewhere like hillpower of chipwizards ect your looking at circa £300+ but will see the best gained out the engine

best thing to do instead of messing around is get a complete williams engine, loom and ecu and drop it straight in if your gonna do it. there's on on williamsclio going for £400 for the engine. you can use the 16v loom but its juts easier if its all attached ready to go.

Am i right in thinking that you need to get the same aged loom as the car your putting it in or the connectors may be different

Cost will add up a bit new cambelt plus clutch plus gasget plus pump might as well chnage at the same time. Its not that much though.

Id try get the suframe off easier that way if you can do it. But those bolts refuse to move so engine out top is the popular way.

They cna be different I'd try get a whole Williams engine , Ecu and loom as there no imboiler issues plus its already correlty mapped so not extra cosr realy plus the Williams engine has more power than a Megan 2.0 bottom end with 1.8 cams ad head the Willaims head and cams are better for power.

Wear on the engine makes a difference though rebuild a 2.0 bottom end on a stock 1.8 head etc and its often more power than a Williams engine but assuming both were the same wear the Williams will always be better. Megans have often less wear though.

so just buy a damaged repairable williams then?? nick the loom? engine bay only i presume? and ecu?!

I tend to use the loom thats in the car already (if its a 16v), to save an arsing about with wiring differences.

Yep plus you get the wide track front suspension etc. But then people end up fixing the Williams.

If you can find a cheap damaged Williams etc then its a great idea.

Hi mate i'm based just 10 mins away from Leicester and i've just done the exact same thing to my valver with my mate Amir (AmirClio on here)

Replaced my 1.8 16v engine with a Williams 3 engine, gearbox, ECU and loom.

If you can get an engine out of a damaged williams, you can leave the loom connected up, and take the ECU as well. Also saves you sourcing a gearbox as well.

If you can get hold of one of those it's relatively easy to swap them over, you'll just need an engine crane. You can get them from HSS Hire on Abbey Lane in leicester, have a look on their site.

If you need a hand with anything just give me a shout, don't mind popping over to help when you do it either! I'm not as experienced as Amir but i can certainly give advice from the experience i gained swapping my engines over.

Cheers buddy, im actually from Loughborough, prob live 2 mins from u. I can get an engine crane without any trouble and have just built my self a garage but if i do the conversion iv got to do it pretty quick cus the Mrs uses it for work (Dont need any agro)

Sorry to go on with this thread, just wondering whats involved in converting the Megane head to go in the Valver as i know it has better tuning potential. Anyone know?

I live in mountsorrel, so just down the road!

Give us a shout if you want a hand when you're doing it! I'm not that technically minded but i watched my mate fit my williams engine so know where most bits go!

I would allow yourself a good few days to get it done, don't expect to complete it in a day. Don't forget about the exhaust as well, if you change the downpipe that won't line up properly. I forgot about that when i changed my engine..

I wouldn't bother with the megane head personally, it's is an option but unless you want to be *****ing about with the wiring you would have to have the head machined to take a dizzy cap so that you can run it with a williams ECU.

  Clio 16v
I think id stick with the 16v head from what your saying cheers donsrno1.

Cliokiz i actually work @ the Honda garage in mountsorrel so only a stones throw away. ill be holding you to giving me a hand. If i go ahead ill take a week of to do it and will use the 16v manifold to keep things the same and read it can help with torque.
