Yet another private plate quest!

First off, sorry if this is the wrong section :rolleyes:

I am buying myself a Personalised plate for my car I know exactly which one I want etc. But looking at the websites one is just over £300 and one is like £240 for the same plate!? :S On one site you knew for sure the actual plates were included in the price but I am guessing the cheaper price didn't include the actual plates being made up? Both sites said they included plate transfer fees etc Which sites have people bought their plates from?

Any help appreciated :eek:

Ok so I have just looked at their website and its £245 inc VAT and transfer!? RESULT :D

Do they make the plates up for you??

No, you need to get plates made up yourself. Just go on to fancyplates, don't even need to have the documents and they're about 20 quid a set.

Just got mine from DVLA, you need to get the plates made up yourself, like said above fancyplates do it and deliver next day if you order before 12noon.

You need to go to your nearest tax office with V5 etc and get all that info swapped, as well as informing your insurance. Just so you know :)

Like i say did mine last week, am im really happy with it. got a 'JAG' plate for cheep!!

Anyone roughly know how long it takes to swap everything over as I would ideally like them on for trax!?

Normally a couple of weeks tops. took me about 10 days all in all. its worth special delivery charge to make sure they get it.
Being in Portsmouth mail theft is probably common place!!

ordered my plates on the 14, i went away till the 18th documents had come, went Tax office on the 18th swapped everything over + got 12months road tax and they said i could put them on the same day. Which i couldn't as i didn't have plates made up.

So there you go. could of done it within 2 working days :)

You'll deffo have them by trax if you do it soon, dont forget BH weekend as well kerry, and with it being the end of the month the TAX office will be rammed!

Takes about ten minutes getting the new tax an mot but itll be a few weeks before the new V5 comes. Putting a plate on retention is the fun process.

How much is the retention? I heard some people dont bother and still manage to get their old plate back?

Could you not get K37 BNY or something like K33 RRY (Highly doubtful though :( )

Personally spotted Y33 APC (Alex Paul Curtis) on a private plate site and then looked on DVLA, alot of money for what it is though.

I looked at loads I really wanted B1NNY with my surname being Binny but its on a local audi :dapprove:

I chose K33 BNY as people call me KeBinny don't ask started in school so that was most fitting and not too expensive :D

reg cost nothing as a mate was getting rid of a car with the reg on it
P73 BRY, BRY being short for Bryan all i had to do was pay the 80 odd quid for transfer BuZZZzzzzing :D then another 80 odd quid when i got the ph 2 172 cup still BuZZZzzzzing :D

DVLA is always cheapest though. Unless you want a dateless one, then you'll have to look elsewhere.

Do I need to send MOT or does it just mean I need to have a valid MOT on the car!? :S

Don't get rid of your old plates, when you take your plate to another car you'll prob get the same old number plate back.

Unlike when I changed cars, my dad had helpfully cut up my old plates for something :mad: so ended up buying another set of plates!!!

I got round the excessive costs for personal plates by changing my name to SV03 HBT by deed poll - £33 all in :cool:.




The Old ones are OLD :eek:

Got my new plates today :D Just got to wait to get all the stuff back before I am allowed to put them on :dapprove:
