Yet more problems

Just another problem to add to my ever growing list since buying this car, noticed the car didnt sound quite right last night so when i got home i opened the drivers door and the exhaust is now really loud.

at first i thought it would be a hole in the mid section due to it sounding like it was coming from under the drivers door, but having got out and looked at the backbox it is now hanging down, ill admit it does sound like a rally car now which i like, im staring yet more repair money in the face and its getting ridiculous to be honest, since buying it i have had at least 9 things (in 3 months) that have gone wrong and needed changing and im fed up of it.

any ideas whether this will just be the back box, or the baffles in the mid section too? tbh i just want to whack a cheap backbox on and ship the b*****d off and never buy another reno, lol

Agreed, Renault build quality is sadly lacking. Doesn't quite compare with Japanese or German engineering quality. Have you considered replacing exhaust with k-tec stealth? I have had one on for 60,000 miles with no problems.

Ive thought of it, but tbh the amount of fuss ive had already doesnt fill me with confidence to spend another couple of hundred on it, just for something else to break, the exhaust was changed 24k ago too, im appauled by this car

Unfortunately you do get bad ones where Renault are concerned, mine's the same, something is always breaking and I hate to think how much money I've thrown at it getting it fixed.

Is yours the car that had a major coolant leak?

Yeah had the belts changed and the water pump a few days later the water pump failed so had to send it back (credit to birchdown they were fantastic!)

so this morning the backbox fell off on my way to work, had to rip the mount off and shove it in the boot, so add that to this ever growing list

1.gearbox leaks and can only be fixed by taking it out so may aswell get it rebuild and a new clutch too
2.Needs a new exhaust
3.the boot sticks all the time and wont open untill the 10th try
4.drivers side central locking is fecked
5.drivers side barrell is a bit iffy
6.cant pick up radio stations and the cd players clicks like mad
7.battery goes flat if the hazard lights are on, or the side lights are on while the keys out of the ignition
8.temp sensor keeps saying its 51 degrees outside
9.ECU bracket is snapped
10.Rear bearing needs doing

theres probably more thats the stuff off the top of my head, i dont want to fix it, just slap a backbox on and part ex is, i wont sell it privately that would be harsh on whoever buys it!

Apart from the gearbox, most of them wear and tear tbh. If the battery is original, it needs a new one, they dont last forever. New ariel base kit (£20) will fix it. Even the temp guage is no biggie, its in the passenger mirror......

Ah yeah, I was at Birchdown just after yours had been in, was talking to Steve about it.

How bad is the gearbox leak? as most of them weap abit near the selector (mine does this).

It just needs a bit of TLC.

I'd just either buy a new Renault back-box for approx £100, or a new cat back system.

Yeah, thats what i mean, bit of tlc and it'll be reet!! I've just bought another cup, and considering i didnt want to spend any real £££ on it, i've spent around £500 getting it ship shape. Thats also without the coilovers i've just bought!

Speak to p@blo on here mate! Removed a non genuine system off his motor, was in good condition! He may sell it cheap'ish!

As said before, most of this is wear and tear. If you'd have clambered underneath to have a look at the exhaust on buying the car, you'd have known..
