Super Cup Update

be interesting to see how these compare to ITB's both in performance and price.

much better value by the looks of it, similar power, cheaper to buy & install because it runs on standard throttle, ecu etc.

Plus the car can be standardised if needed, no more chopping the front of the car about.

Hi

Will my cat bolt straight on to this and does it come with 2 exhaust pipes?

Only joking ;)

Pictures will clear a lot of the confusion

I'll wait til it's out rather than speculate on what it will or wont be tbh, sounds promising though :)

ITB's dont require any cutting either :)

People are idiots. Can you make a bespoke inlet manifold for me? I'm willing to pay 5 pounds.

  F4R'd ITB'd '92 cup racer
i apologise if this is way off, but this is very good 'propoganda' the way the hype has been built up well before the product has been released

so really the supplier/s have brought the questions upon themselves, but then its not them getting bored of the questions is it? any publicity is good publicity as they say ;)

i want one and i havent seen it or a price, i might be put off when it all gets revealed, who knows?!?!

We're not going to find out the price of this until full details are finalised.

However, Mini-valvers inlet is claimed to be the forerunner. So, how much was yours Mini as that may give us a guide?

  Mk2 172
Have a look at how many people run ITBs without uprated internals ;)

Realistically the engine isnt under anymore strain unless the engine rev limit is raised significantly. Its only air getting in and out more efficiently and not forced like a turbo or charger :)

Mini's was a fabricated item with some components CNC'd. The Super 2000 type manifold kit we are talking about here is quite different again with various cast and fabricate components and proper spun alloy trumpets then a fair amount of CNC finishing on top to ensure accurate matching. It's also worth noting that on Mini's car it was easy to go 'down' in terms of plenum packaing, on a 172/182 it's not so getting sufficent plenum volume for good power is much more difficult.

We're very close now and all details will be forthcoming in one post with pictures, results and prices. Sorry if it seems like hype building, it's not. It's about getting accurate information out in the first place and therefore negating the possibility of confusion at a later date.

Cheers

Just the plenum, no filter, TB, piping or anything I THINK was about £1400. Cant remember exactly though.

At the end of the day, its a bespoke inlet manifold, it's never going to be cheap. People just dont seem to realise the time, cost and effort required to bring something to market. Especially with building a brand new engine from scratch to use for testing.

Mini had to pay a lot more for his than a developed unit would cost as it was a one off special, so the R&D and tooling etc was all new and likely to never be repeated

Here's me trying to resist the urge to mod my car for a bit, but to be honest one of these would be too good to miss!

It's moisture inducing!

According to BenR, mini-valvers was for all intents and purposes the fore runner to this inlet.

Sort of........as in its the same theoretic basis.

I have been banging on about fabricated plenums for freaking years, and everybody calls up about ITB's, I try and say for a road car the OEM ecu and fabricated plenum would be miles better. However, nobody had the balls or understood what I was talking about I think.

minivalves just had the balls to do it, and thus, had great gains from a extremely mild spec engine.

ben i presume each one of these would be made to order, so just thoeretically if you had more space say, such as a smaller rad etc, would it be worthwhile having you fabricate a "custom" one, any extra benefit etc or am i just being silly ;)

They will be made to order, but the sheet material will be cut to a pattern on a cnc water cutter, so any tailoring will have to be custom made and to a price I cannot comment on.

However, if there are enough 'cup' interested people then I can template up a much simpler plenum design that shouldnt deviate from the original price, and allow a slightly more beneficial plenum shape and volume simply because i'm not trying to squeeve between and alt, pas pump and aircon lines, rad cowling and top rad hose.

I'd imagine there would be a few people willing to sacrifice air con tbh. Not me mind!

well that's good news for a LOT of cup drivers ; not deviating from the original price , sounds good .

  Clio 172 Cup
Yep, a Cup owner here who is also watching this project with interest. I've not touched the engine yet, waiting for this to be the basis of some subtle mods.

  H&R + Pole Position'd Cup
My cup has registered it's interest with Icarus and this option sounds very appealing to me!

Have cash waiting for this - burning a hole in my pocket atm though :(

  340i
I like the idea of the "cup set-up" plenum design... My ph-1 has the air con removed, so would be interested in this version.

  H&R + Pole Position'd Cup
Seems to be a fairly popular idea.

Always nice to get one over on the poncey FF owners.

Go for it Ben ;)

  172 Cup
I want!

Looks like I'm going to be saving for a bit now, I foolishly convinced myself I wouldn't be doing anything to the cup but that's soooo out the window now!
