I've just broken down and it sounded expensive

glad its done mate, did you have all the belts/tensioners changed before it was put in? or is that a silly question? lol

will be good as new!

glad JMS managed to sort this out of you

i have one of these to do next week.

in the rally car the valves are something we got custom made from one piece of high quality steel (or whatever)

apparently renault friction weld the heads onto the shank of the valve and then refinish it :S

I'm home, car is back to normal.

Thank you to JMS is definitely in order. I'm heading out soon but I'll leave some proper feedback tomorrow.

:)

Righty ho, now I've had the car back for 24 hours I thought I would post an update. Firstly, all is well, the car is running brilliantly and it's SOOO good to have it back. JMS did a fantastic job, and James was brilliant when I met him. I've got a few bits and bobs which I should be able to sell which is nice as well.

I really regret asking him to have a listen to the annoying metallic rattling I get at about 6k revs though, it completely slipped my mind. This isn't engine related though, I'm fairly certain it's to do with the rear/centre exhaust heat shield.

So, all is good!

nice1 dude, its all hapened so fast lol.

Whats the total bill for the lot then?

It didn't feel fast to me being stuck without a car :p

Engine is on its way out of the car :)

It's dropped an intake valve, so a bit of a mess inside!

First off, sorry for the thread hi-jack, but I figured I'd post this to let you know you're not the only one out there!

Sounds like what mine did back in November... driving along and suddenly no power.

Cost me 2700 pounds to get an engine with 40,000km fitted w/ new belts etc + labour. Engine itself was 1250 pounds.

That being said, mine did a lot more damage...

Ouch, that looks nasty!!

Certainly looks like a similar thing though. Mine, including engine, was about £2400 all in.

Crikey on price or damage?

£2400 for 2nd hand engine to get fitted etc, ouch,

Well, it wasn't just the fitting of the engine. I've got a new cam kit, aux kit, water pump, air con re-gas, new clutch, new spark plugs, not sure what else, I'm still waiting for the invoice.

Yeah it was about £900 odd. I was going to buy one cheaper from someone on these forums but his messaging etiquette and general attitude towards the sale was beyond a joke. He made me feel like he was doing me a favour! So, I paid the extra in order to buy from a reputable company and also the engine came with a 3 month warranty as well.

What is most gutting about all of this is when I think it could have covered the cost of all the things I want to do to the car:

New head unit
Speakers
Eibach Sportlines
Milltek or Scoprion exhaust
Turinis

:( It makes me feel a bit sick actually.

at least its all done mate, at least it was damage that could be rectified!
glad that you got the work done, threads like this is what the CS community is all about.

I would have been completely screwed and more out of pocket had it not been for CS (mainly due to finding JMS Tuning through the forums) :)

Im dead chuffed for you that you have your pride and joy back. I knew the lads would come through for you!

I've known them since before JMS was a mere twinkle in their eyes and aside from both being completely fantastic friends, i'd trust them with anything to do with my car.
Quite a few of the more established and 'reputable' 'specialists' could do well to take a leaf out of their ever growing book TBQFH.

This thread is like one of them films that starts badish, gets worse towards the middle then end happily ever after!!

Awwwwwwwwwwwwww.

Glad you got is sorted mate, would this kind of thing be covered under a gaurantee from the likes of Evans Halshaw?

I'm afraid there is another twist in the tale. I need a new dephaser pulley, my Cat is leaking, and my exhaust is beginning to blow.

The fun never ends, haha! If I turn the stereo up high enough it's all good though :)

Decat ;) - what makes you think the pulley is going?

It's ticking very loudly. I went to see James at JMS on Tuesday and he kindly took a look at it. He's fairly certain it's the dephaser but would like to get inside it a bit more before changing it. I'm just waiting for a quote from them.

I'm tempted by a 'quiet' decat, like a Milltek or something. Just not sure about changing it over come MOT time. James said it's pretty easy, but then again I am retarded when it comes to cars :p

I think a decat could be fun though :)

Lol - Quiet decat, do you need your testicales re-attaching???

Ah fair enough, is it just on idle or all the way up the revs?

I thought that it was present all up the revs but James said that it drops off when it goes higher. We shall see, I just need to get a quote for the work and then get it booked in with them. I can't wait to get things running properly :)

hehe, by 'quiet' decat I just meant not a Yozza or something like that. I don't want to draw attention to myself :)

Am I the only one who genuinely is heartwarmed at reading about the despair and then happiness! Excellent thread!

I wondered if anyone read my posts, then graham confirmed it!

It's part of the cam kit, it's the thing in the top right in this picture.

About £150-160 for the part I think, and then I've heard around 6-8 hours labour; so probably looking at around £400-450 :(

When you mention a quiet decat not something like a yozza I take it you mean a complete system? As all decat pips sound the same unless you get a silenced one.

If you mean a full system with a decat then I'd highly recommend the ktec one, I've got the supersports one and it sounds amazing and not annoying at motorway speeds, however if your worried about noise then get the sports version.

Its NOT part of a cambelt kit, its a seperate part which you have to purchase on top of the kit,

What I mean is that the dephaser pulley is in the same area as all of the cam stuff. I don't know what the name of the whole thing is. What would you call it?

Yeah I did mean the full system. I'll take a look at the ktec one, thanks dude.

This is me we're talking about though, I am the definition of 'bad luck'. Nothing ever goes right for me, so the chance of finding a cheap engine is non existent. The chance of me going down to the garage tonight and smashing the s**t out of my 182 is very high. I am bored of this whole business now. I drive a piece of s**t for 8 years and finally treat myself to something I actually want, 5 f**king weeks I've had the thing and now I have nothing.

Sorry for the ranting.

hey mate i know how you feel when i bought my cup last year in november it very quickly came to my attention that something was wrong with the front left had blatently been crashed and fixed to a very poor standard just to sell, anyway cut a long story short i had to change everything, new discs, new stub axle, new shock, new bottom end ball joint, new suspension arm, new driveshaft hub, new steering arm and ball joint. Then just as i was happy and id finally diagnosed and fixed that(got my handling back) my rear offside caliper siezed on and cracked my disc.... THEN my throttle body failed.... save to say i was quite raging by then lol.

All sorted now tho runs fine apart from a small misfire which i believe to be a faulty lambda but thats a recent problem. what im saying is keep hope mate cos since i fixed all problems i absolutely love the car again handles like a treat and pulls hard like it should. good luck!
