MK1 Auto's

  1997 Clio RL 1.2
Sorry for the boring topic, I know it's hardly very ClioSport!
But I'm looking at possibly getting myself a MK1 Ph1/2 (not sure) 1.4 RT Auto. What experiences have people had on here with these engine and gearboxes? Are they decent cars? Clearly I'm not expecting much performance wise, but are they capable of easily keeping up with traffic?
Please, let me know thoughts and experiences - I've found it difficult to find anything on this forum or via Google on specifically these cars.
Thanks,
Dan

Wife had one a few years ago. Only 3 speed so very long gears which makes it fairly sluggish. The engines are good though and can last for a loooong time. Boxes less so, tend to be only worth scrap if the box breaks.

Other than that just the normal mk1 problems, rust, leaks and rust. Proper comfy though!

Comfy, lazy and potentially reliable? Sounds alright to me! Only slight issue is that the car is 142 miles away, in Kent..
I'll see if I can get up there at all, unlikely but worth a try, I think I'd quite like it.

Thanks for the reply :D
